Is there no end to R.D. Burman’s talents as an arranger. Here lies a very rare and hard to track down soundtrack. I found this in Mumbai after 3 days of digging through Indian lp's in far from ideal conditions, however thats another story.
Caravan is seen as one of the best, if not the best, R.D. Burman- Nasir Husain soundtrack ever composed. There was the romance, a solo hero song, the spicy dance number and every other song simply fell into its own best of category. One tune starts with a burp!! On 'Piya tu ab to aja' RD Burman invented a new, unheard of music style. It became a huge hit and revolutionized the whole genre. It features surf guitar, sleazy sax, moody vibes, spanish trumpet, suspense violins, infectious jazz rhytms, big band and an eerie organ. A tremendous amount of breaks, bridges & rhythm changes! Most spectacular is the breathy panting by Indian Jazz Queen Asha Boshle and: the Master R.D. himself. An incredible song which grooves along with great finesse! 'Ab to Mile Hai' is a top Lata song with excellent organ & flute breaks, very strange. Great Intermezzo's. . The rest of the albums is interesting for samples & loops of mostly traditional Indian sounds. 'Chadhati' and 'Daiya' feature real great, weird Indian tuned percussion samples.
In ‘Caravan’ music lovers will be hard pressed not to like a thing about each of the deliciously enticing songs.
