(Rahsaan) Roland Kirk – Kirk In Copenhagen (Signed?) 1964 UK Mercury MCL 20021, Jazz, Free Improvisation
The laminated printed card sleeve is in generally in VG condition. The front is laminated but shows some minor creasing adjacent to the spine. The rear flipbacks are secure but the rear of the cover has a 5mm tear is torn next to the signature. I cannot provide any provenance to substantiate the latter which reads ' To Graham from Roland Kirk' although other examples of his signature on the internet are strikingly similar (see E Bay 175234050696). There is evidence of ring wear both front and back but this is not substantial. There is some pinching to the spine but this is still clearly readable. The original paper inner is a little discoloured with age but undamaged.
The mono vinyl is without doubt grade EX+. It has been played and has some light marks which do not cause any great problems on play. On play grading today there was some minimal static on the run in on both sides but nothing really substantial, except maybe the odd pop or click during the remainder of the album although there were 4 or 5 clicks at the end of Track 2, Side 2 'Cabin in the Sky' but these do not spoil the enjoyment of the album as a whole. It plays superbly with very strong audio. Apart from the marks already mentioned, the surface is very clean, glossy and shiny - an great copy and rare in this condition when the fact that it is nearly 60 years old.
