MN 1oo - 1974
Moon Records/SRO Productions Ltd
Since their formation in 1969, it took the original members of Rush, Alex, Geddy and John Rutsey, (Neil Peart’s predecessor) 5 years for this great debut album to be released. Unable to secure a record company deal, the band decided to form their own record label called MOON RECORDS. The record was recorded at Eastern Sound Studios in 1973 and remixed in Toronto by Terry Brown. Only 3,500 copies were ever pressed world-wide before RUSH hit the big time by securing a record contract with Mercury Records. This great album was then re-issued on the more common blue MERCURY label.
This is one of those original 3500 !!
The original MOON RECORDS pressing has the RED coloured RUSH logo. The later pressings on MERCURY and ANTHEM have the more familiar pink RUSH logo!!!
It is believed that considerably less than 3500 copies of this record exist today, especially in such very good condition!
Vinyl description:
The thick vinyl I would describe visually as VERY GOOD. The pale blue labels are free from any writing or vandalism, although there are some spindle marks, (see photos). If looking for flaws in the disc, there are typically a number of very light surface marks across both side A and side B of the disc. All tracks play through very nicely. In fact there is very little noise to interfere with the music. Audibly this album sounds excellent on a good turntable, and has a much meatier rock sound than the thinner vinyl used in later pressings.
Sleeve description:
The sleeve is typical of US and Canadian pressings of the time, made out of thick hard card, which is very tough and durable. The cover is mostly very clean, and in very good condition for it age. There is NO writings or vandalism and the rear spine is also very clean. All lettering is perfectly readable. A fine example of this RARE classic rock LP. Obviously, with a record of this age there are some flaws, which include very minor ring wear and very slight loss of colour from the top of the letters RUSH on the front cover.
See the photos and judge for yourself !!
This record deserves a seriously good home to an authentic Rush record collector!! Bidding starts low and the reserve on this LP is also low relative to its true value as a much sort after Rush Collector’s piece.
I have, I trust, been very honest about the quality of this very RARE LP. The flaws described are accurate, and in my opinion do not really detract from this record being one VERY SPECIAL & VERY COLLECTABLE LP. If you have never owned one before, here is your chance!! They don’t come up very often and you will not be disappointed.
