Another from my personal collection. This is an original early 1st UK pressing of Rush Permanent Waves. Initially purchased from new and only ever played to record to tape by me personally only and it has only ever been played three or four times ever. The vinyl was and has always been stored separately from the sleeve and cover for protection for over 34 years. This is how I have always stored my records. Visually the vinyl looks and sounds like it has never been played before in my personal opinion. The audio is absolutely stunning and very vibrant only found like this on the earliest pressings. Don't take my word for it listen to the complete album in the player below and make up your own mind. Very collectable and sought after in this like new condition! This is complete with the original lyric insert picture record sleeve and 1st issue Robor printed (no bar code) un laminated cover in absolutely superb tip top condition. Very Rare and collectable like this.

 
 
Permanent Waves is the seventh studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on January 1, 1980. It was recorded at Le Studio, Morin Heights, Quebec, and mixed at Trident Studios in London, UK. Permanent Waves became Rush's first US top five album hitting #4 and was the band's fifth gold (eventually platinum) selling album. The album also marks a distinct transition from long, conceptual pieces, into a more accessible, radio-friendly style and consequently, a significant expansion in the band's sales with hits such as "The Spirit of Radio" and "Freewill" seeing considerable radio airplay.




The writing of the album began in July 1979, at a farmhouse at Lakewoods Farm in Ontario on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron while Neil Peart started his lyrics in a cottage near there. Rush began with an instrumental jam, which they nicknamed "Uncle Tounouse". Parts of this were used in the songs on the album. While Peart worked on lyrics, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson would work on musical ideas in the basement. Within a few days they had put together "The Spirit of Radio", "Freewill" and "Jacob's Ladder", which came very naturally to them, and it was recorded on a Slider JVC mobile unit. "Entre Nous" was the only lyric completed ahead of time.




Peart was working on making a song out of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the medieval epic from King Arthur's time. Based on the story written in the 14th century, he was trying to keep its original style. It was deemed too out of place with the other material and was discarded. They moved into Sound Kitchen studio in Toronto to record demos, joined by producer Terry Brown. "The Spirit of Radio", "Freewill" and "Jacob's Ladder" were further polished on the warm-up tour during soundchecks.




Rush headed to Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec and began tweaking the settings of instruments and positioning of microphones. They recorded basic tracks with multiple takes until they captured the best performance. While Lee, Lifeson and Brown began overdubs, Peart began attempting to write another epic song to replace the discarded "Green Knight", and after enduring three days of writer's block, "Natural Science" was born. Fin Costello was then brought in to photograph the band in the studio. Cover art director Hugh Syme was also brought in and added a piano solo to "Different Strings". Music was composed for "Natural Science", with some leftover parts from "Green Knight". The tide pool effects for the song were created by splashing oars in the private lake, performed by Brown and studio assistant Kim Bickerdike, and the natural echo outside was used to record various instruments. The rough mixes on the album were complete, and the final mix was completed in a week at Trident Studios, London




The cover art sparked some controversy because of the appearance of the "Dewey Defeats Truman" headline on the newspaper. Because of pressure from the Chicago Tribune, Hugh Syme changed the text to "Dewei Defeats Truman". The billboards in the distance were changed from Coca-Cola (who objected to the use of their logo) to include each band member's name in similar typestyle.




The background scene comes from a photo, taken by Flip Schulke, of the Galveston Seawall in Texas during Hurricane Carla on September 11, 1961. The woman pictured in the foreground is model Paula Turnbull. The waving man in the background is Syme.

The Vinyl

 
The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps and looks like new condition. I can't even see a blemish on the playing surface what so ever!
 Any marks that possibly could be seen in strong light would be light wyspy sleeve removal type but too be honest I can't see any at all! importantly no audio sounding marks or needle marks at all, at least none that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops even static ticks that I heard at all!




The Audio Quality

I have played this track for track at very, very loud volume prior to listing at very loud volume. From the moment that the needle hits the playing surface , it is obvious that this vinyl not only visually but audibly has only ever been played one time before ever! The audio is stunning cristal clear and vibrant, very bright and clear throughout without any signs of distortion at all and plays with a lovely deep bassey feel only found like this on early pressings! Amaizingly, even in between tracks this is nice and silent very very rare copy like this! I would grade the audio at least  Near as mint as I could possibly hope in my opinion! An Audio Archive copy Never Need To Upgrade!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer. Please allow for minor isolated static/ticks perhaps heard in very isolated quiet places only,, but nothing constant throughout the audio. Please remember that this vinyl is an original 34 years old and would have been originally played on a 34 year old system.
Points to note! This album has been stored in a case laying dormant for over  34 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes stat ticks/crackle.  A constant clean before each play is highly recommended. This will reduce any static and enhance the audio quality.  It is noted that I saw debrit left on the playing surface after play, indicating this will need further cleaning.. ((To be honest I never hear any major problems perhaps very minor static ticks to mention only!))

The Labels

These are the original blue Mecury Labels. There's not much to say but these are almost like new in my opinion. If you look very hard you may just about see a hand full of spider marks only no wear no real spindle marks that I can see at all! The spindle hole is free of any wear and of course is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original picture thick paper lyric sleeve patented made in England no splits or tears very clean indeed.

The Cover

This Is The Original early 1st issue/ Robor ltd  1st UK Press un laminated  UK cover in absolutely tip top superb stunning Very Near Mint condition! These are almost impossible to keep in near perfect condition like this! No real rubbing wear at all, No real crushing to mention at the spine and no real rubbing wear that is often seen. Amazingly  no ring wear on the front or rear. There is a very minor creasing to mention  but only noticed if looked for in my opinion. The vinyl has always been stored in a case separated from the cover which has protected this for nearly 34 years! Any indents or marks that may be noticed only if looked for in my opinion. This cover is graded at least excellent plus to Very Near Mint the best that you could find in my opinion.
