Rush

'All The World's A Stage'

Mercury, USA, 1976

SRM - 2 - 7508

STUNNING DOUBLE LIVE album issued at the height of their prog capabilities coming on like a wacky combination of Led Zeppelin and King Crimson with all the histrionics that you would reasonably expect. That's the thing about early Rush, they weren't affraid to ham it up is a huge way with every member firing on all six. Alex Lifesong's guitar was mean, lean and full of sustain (this was the golden eara before he turned into Andy Summers), Geddy's high priestess vocals were ear splittingly magnetic and Neil Peart destroys on drums.

The track selection is totally in the pocket with killer hard rocking tracks like 'Working Man', 'Finding My Way' and 'Fly By Night' leading the Zeppesque charge. On the prog front you've some of the best material they ever recorded such as 'Bastille Day', 'By Tor And The Snowdog' and '2112' proving that this was one band who couldn't give a monkey's about what was hip or trendy in 1976.

As you know, this album was originally released only in Canada and the USA, available as an expensive but limited import in the UK. Eventually the UK put out the album in a simple gatefold cover. Originals, like this one, came housed in an elaborate but fragile Tri-fold cover prone to severe cover wear. This copy is perfect, displaying no wear whatsoever- in fact it looks like it just stepped out of the factory in 1976. MINT!

This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Pressing: Mercury, USA, 1976
