For Decca's SXL classical LPs, the typical number of test pressings produced would likely fall within the range of 5 to 10 copies per album, although the exact number could vary depending on the specific recording and quality control standards of the time.
Labels state : Factory Sample - NOTICE - This Pressing is not necessarily representative of the finished record and must not be used for review purposes .
this is the test pressing for the first press black DECCA stereo labels with the wide band .
STAMPED matrix numbers are : ZAL-4836-4W / ZAL-4837-4W ( at the three o'clock position , on both sides is what looks like a D but its slightly rounded and could be a B , which , from what info i have found , has to be a B , because they didn't use the letter D for the single letter mother stampers . B , by the way , is the very first mother stamper ! , the "Buckingham code" . more info below )
record is VG to VG++ ( very nice overall , BUT , has two short minor scratches ( at the beginning of side two about 1/4 inch long each , and reflected the light in the last picture so you can see them in the pic ) that are slightly feelable with the edge of a fingernail . otherwise very nice with some extremely light wispy sleevelines , and a very few , very minor pressing blemishes . i spot checked the two minor scratches and it played there very well , with just some very minor surface static and some minor ticking from those two slightly feelables for the first minute or so . labels as shown with release info handwriting . VERY RARE ! )
laminated cover is VG ( normal wear , ring/rubwear , minor spotting , creases , see pics , nice seams )
original cover with (Printing company's code on bottom left back) : R.S. 9.60-721A
has the original innersleeve as well with the sample record seal remnants still attached ( was broken when the record was first removed a long time ago )
innersleeve is VG ( wrinkles , a few rips , as shown , see pics , handwriting on top right corner says : ZAL 4836/7-4W , which matches the records catalog numbers )
