Description
Offering is original owner’s Monument Records, 1st Mono Pressing (1961), M 4002, “Long Playing – High Fidelity”, 33-1/3 RPM LP, black vinyl record. Specific descriptions:
· Album Cover / Sleeve – CONDITION: VERY GOOD+. The front cover has retained all its original rich colors. The full-size color photo of Roy Orbison sitting in a convertible shows no fading, stains, or discolorations. The front cover still shows a glossy finish. Neither the front nor back have any owner markings. There are no seam / spine splits or tears. The back cover shows mild age toning along the top and, to a lesser extent, at the mid-bottom. The back cover has no stains or markings. There is one (1) small “burr split” at the bottom right corner. (See photographs no. 3 & 21).
· Vinyl – CONDITION: VERY GOOD+. Its vinyl playing surfaces are clean and bright with several, very minimal light hairlines. There are no scuffs or scratches. Vinyl has a rich, attractive gloss. Both “Long Playing – Monument – High Fidelity” labels are in very excellent condition with no spindle wear, scratches, discoloration or stains.
This Roy Orbison debut album was recorded at the RCA Victor Studios in Nashville on the following dates: Raindrops (09/1959); Only The Lonely, Blue Avenue (03.25.1960); Blue Angel (08/1960); all remaining tracks between 09/15-17/1960.
Roy Orbison, his collaborator Joe Melson, and producer Fred Foster turned this singer’s debut LP record into a broad canvas that created a sound combining rock and roll’s beat, Nashville’s country sound and Orbison’s unique, multi-octave range and operatic intensity into something very special in early 1960’s popular music.
Purchased in 1961 at The House of Music, New Rochelle, NY. Always stored upright, kept in dry, non-smoking homes. Please review the twenty-one (21) photographs to assist in your assessment of the items’ condition. The photographs are an integral part of the descriptions used for the cover and vinyl record.
