HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB, UK HARVESTS (SHSP 4060) FIRST PRESSING (March 1977) OF ROY HARPER'S EXCELLENT "Bullinamingvase" LP IN BEAUTIFUL BARELY PLAYED CONDITION

THIS FIRST PRESSING CONTAINS THE WITHDRAWN TRACK "Watford Gap" - Harper's sardonic tribute to the motorway service station that served greasy fare to rockers like himself on the touring circuit (which EMI replaced with "Breakfast With You," after the owners threatened a lawsuit)

THE RECORD HAS THE FIRST ISSUE HARVEST LABELS
FIRST PRESS MATRIX: SHSP 4060 A-2 (etched 'NICK W') / SHSP 4060 B-1 (etched 'NICKYCUT')
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 1/L and 2/P

FANTASTIC LP - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

"Bullinamingvase" finds Roy harper in as uncompromising a mood as ever; who else would follow up HQ's (1975) elegiac grandeur with a sweeping, 20-minute epic like "One of Those Days in England"?
Yet such conceits are exactly the quality that endear Harper to fans then and now; it's nothing less than a sweeping roundup of Western civilization's follies, such as an impersonal government that seems unable to offer a future beyond "rolling spliffs for Captain Kirk." Harper's since cited the song as his favourite extended track, which also opens the album in abbreviated, three-minute form, bolstered by the unlikely presence of Paul and Linda McCartney on backing vocals. (The song was even threatening to grace Britain's celebrated Top of the Pops chart countdown show, until Harper's label there, EMI, issued it as a free single.)
The album continues the romantic yearning established on prior outings like HQ, Valentine (1974), and Stormcock (1971), an impression cemented by "These Last Days," "Cherishing the Lonesome," and "Naked Flame" -- which laments yet another favourite Harper theme, the ashes of fraying relationships.
The full band does much to lend his lyrics the weight that they deserve, although Harper's vocals are emotive and soulful as ever.
Harper's rowdy, playful side comes out on the rollicking countrified blast of "Watford Gap," his sardonic tribute to a café that served greasy fare to rockers like himself on the touring circuit (which EMI replaced with "Breakfast With You," after the owners threatened a lawsuit).

LABELS: CLEAN, BRIGHT and UNMARKED with just a (very) few light spindles
VINYL Visual: The surfaces retain their original DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN with just some light hairlines caused by the thick card inner but these have NO audio consequence
VINYL Audio: OUTSTANDING audio - CRYSTAL CLEAR, WARM, RICH and VIBRANT SOUND - FANTASTIC ALBUM. There are NO scratches, NO sticks/jumps, NO clicks or pops. The LP plays BEAUTIFULLY throughout to an extremely high standard with NO groove-wear and NO distortion (its seen light play only). Must be graded NEAR MINT for audio - the playback is practically FLAWLESS throughout. NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please check my feedback and "about me' page)
SLEEVE: The G&L matte cover is also in BEAUTIFUL condition - CLEAN, SHARP and FRESH with just some record impression to the central top edge (not split) otherwise, practically UNWORN edges/spine where all text is CLEAR and BOLD
LYRIC INNER SLEEVE: Again, CLEAN, SHARP and FRESH with just the beginnings of a small split to the central bottom edge. The LP is now housed - and will be posted in - a new inner to prevent any 'knifing' damage to the original during transit
