ROSSO DI SERA Lp Original Swiss pressing on the PLAINISPHARE label (PAV 813), from 1987 Outstanding, private press indie jazz by the maverick trumpet player, Daniel Verdesca with group. A fabulous mix of spiritual / modal and contemporary hard bop with Mediterranean and North African influences. Reminds us of Santucci Scoppa in places with flashes of rhythmical free jazz too. Lots of captivating exchanges between the horn players / deep bending basslines and afrocentric drumming. Features several killer tunes including the spiritual jazz and funky modal nuances of MIEUX QUE RIEN and the strung-out DANANIR (with hip hop tempo breakbeats) / the impressive modern jazz of SQUITT and ROSSO DI SERA / the slow building TAMARINDO and mysterious STEPPES with middle eastern ambience. ICEBERG opens with drum breaks into a driving theme and NESSUNO LO SA has an alluring Italian folk ambience. Eclectic melodies and infectious rhythms by these accomplished musicians. The whole Lp is superb. Really quite spellbinding with top production. One of the best examples of european jazz of the period with a dark Balearic twist. Desirable item with certain Japanese DJs and collectors. Released on the same cult label as the Gilles Torrent Jazztet. Similar year defying sound too. Archive copy, was sealed, opened and played once for the recording of our soundclip. Rare Lp!!! Full tracklisting: ROSSO DI SERA / NESSUNO LO SA / SQUITT / TAMARINDO / DANANIR / ICEBERG / STEPPES / MIEUX QUE RIEN
Musicians:
Daniel Verdesca - trumpet / flugelhorn
Maurizio Bionda - alto sax
Sandro Rossetti - double bass / contrabbasso / contrebasse
Marc Erbetta - drums
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is in shiny, M- condition with some faint residue blemishes from the original pressing process. Very shallow dish cum slightest of storage warp to vinyl but no affect at all on playback and quite common as most copies were sealed with tight shrinkwrap. Our item was previously sealed, opened and played once for the recording of our soundclip. Superb production sound. The sleeve is in M- condition and still in original shrinkwrap. Minimal wear, if any. Just a touch of card bending from the shrinkwrap. Sharp looking item. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Rare Lp!!!
