Another from my personal collection! Purchased from new and stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the sleeve and cover! This is how I have always stored my records!  Note: I own all of the Rory Gallagher & related UK albums in my collection, he is one of my all time favorite blues artists. Also this is a very early original 1st UK pressing. Note: This album was pre-ordered when it was due to be released and I initially only ever played the vinyl to record to tape and then stored the album in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover and sleeve for protection, this is how I have always stored my records!   Absolutely stunning top audio on my systems! Graded at mint in my opinion, as good as it gets!  Try to find another original UK issue like this! Genuine 40 years old and complete! The vinyl visually is near mint and the cover and lyric sleeve visually is at least excellent plus in my opinion. An archive copy, try to find better! Very collectable like this!

Listen to the complete album in the player below. Actual recording from the record listed!

Photo-Finish is the ninth album by Irish musician Rory Gallagher, released in 1978.

It marked a turning point in Gallagher's career. Most of the songs on Photo-Finish were initially recorded on what was to be an earlier album called Torch but Gallagher was unhappy with the recordings.

He fired the drummer and keyboardist from his current band and replaced only the drummer changing the band to a power trio as his original bands had been.

The album name reflects the fact that the finished product was delivered to the record company just at the deadline.

The album came after a two-year period without an album release, due to Gallagher's decision to scrap the earlier version of the album and the need to recover from an accident to his thumb.

Gallagher originally recorded many of the songs that would end up on Photo-Finish in San Francisco.

Rather than producing the album himself as he usually did he worked with Elliot Mazer, a successful producer who had previously produced hits for Neil Young. At the last minute — the initial copies of the album had been pressed— Gallagher decided to simply scrap the Mazer produced album. In an interview Gallagher stated: "it wasn't because of the material or the musicians or anything like that. It was a song thing that I didn't think on the technical side everything worked. So I scrapped the thing"

Immediately after scrapping the album Gallagher injured his thumb — catching it in the door of a cab. He left San Francisco and went to a studio in Germany to rework the album. He also reworked his band changing drummers and dropping the keyboardist to return to the power trio format of Taste and his original solo band. Photo Finish is the result of those German studio sessions.

The original versions of the songs as recorded with the group including a keyboardist were posthumously released as disc one of the album Notes From San Francisco.

In contrast to the experience working with Mazer in San Francisco, Gallagher enjoyed working at the German studio: "the studio was perfect. It was 13 kilometers from Cologne. So you were close to a big city if you wanted to be near one. The studio was also 24-track. We brought over an Irish engineer who was working in London who had previously done Venus and Mars (Paul McCartney) and Let it Bleed (Rolling Stones), and a lot of Kinks records. "

The vinyl

This is the original heavier and thicker type of vinyl (only early press) later press are much more flimsier and less robust. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and free of any warping.

This vinyl looks superb! I can barely see a blemish and this looks barely played in my opinion! Only in strong light can possibly any whyspy sleeve removal marks/scuffs possibly be seen! Beleive me this is a real rarety! 40 years old like this!

The Audio

This was played on a top system at very loud volume prior to listing   The audio is cristal clear and vibrant with (no) distortion at all! (no) loud constant clicks or pops heard! The vinyl has only ever been played two or three times only from new,, I would class myself as highly critical please look at my completed listing of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! The audio is graded at near mint in my opinion. I dought that you would find a better copy of this vinyl.

Points to note! This album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years! A build up of dirt and dust over the years causes static ticks\crackle. A constant clean is recomended before each play. From my personal experiance this reduces static crackle and enhances the audio qaulity!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have described the audio quality as honest and as I heard it. Although i never heard any major problems other than prevoiously described, Please allow for the odd light static crackle\ticks here and there (not) consistant through out the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 40 year old vinyl that would have originally have been played on a 40 year old system!

The labels

These are the oiriginal 1st UK issue blue Chysalis labels, It is difficult for me to actually see any major spidering, perhapes a handful only. This has obviously barely ever been played in my personal opinion. The spindle hole is perfectly round and free of any wear. Only ever played two or three times ever!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original paper picture record sleeve (Very clean)  'Made in Great Britain' patented sleeve! Only if looked at very hard I notice very slight edges ware where the edge are becoming frail only worth to note. The vinyl has been seperated from the sleeve! Please note! An anti static liner was put in when I purchased this album many years ago, to protect the vinyl from the paper sleeve!

The Cover

This is the original 1st press, 1st issue unlaminated cover. Basically it looks superb in my opinion. Being primarily black these are almost impossible to keep in good condition like this one. Just try to find a better looking copy. No nasty creases to mention very, very minor crease lines at the edges. Note very slight corner bumping to note,  The Spine is clean all writing clear slight crushing/creases worth to mention. A real beauty beleive me.   This is strong and very straight must be at least excellent plus in my opinion!
An Archive copy final upgrade!
