I have been a collector of vinyl for more than 30 years, with a collection of over 2,000 albums, the time has come to part with some of the collection. Over the coming months I will be listing some of the albums I have decided to part with here on ebay as well as on my bluesvinyl4u website, while the majority of my albums are blues related from all eras, there will be a mixed bag to chose from.

ALBUM DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)

“Sticky Fingers” released on 23rd April 1971 represents the pinnacle of the Jagger / Richards songwriting partnership and a band at the peak of their musical prowess, narrowly shaving “Exile On Main Street” to steal the hard-contested honour. The album reached the number 1 slot on both sides of the Atlantic.  It also came at a time when they could do no wrong. You have Their “Satanic Majesties Request”, followed by “Beggar’s Banquet”, followed by “Let It Bleed”, then “Sticky Fingers”, “Exile On Main Street”, and “Goats Head Soup”. Just one of those albums would be enough to cement the name of any lesser band in the halls of music immortality. But indeed, ‘the hardest working band in rock ‘n’ roll’ pumped them out in a space of five years and were never quite the same again.

The first Stones studio album without any input from the late Brian Jones, Stick Fingers unveiled his replacement, one time John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers guitarist, Mick Taylor.

From the all-too-familiar abrasive opening chords of ‘Brown Sugar’ to the closing crescendo and gentle peter out of ‘Moonlight Mile’, it is perfect in every sense. If there’s only one fault that can be picked from the ten tracks on offer, it’s that the jam at the end of ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knocking’ does drag on a little. This is a four minute song padded out to just over seven mins. Apart from that one, barely noticable quibble, it’s all good.

The highlight of Sticky Fingers has to be the final track, ‘Moonlight Mile’. Just shy of six minutes of bliss, it evokes a certain feeling of desperate loss in its telling disillusion with the sex and drugs lifestyle of rock ‘n’ roll, boasting an unforgettable, lilting guitar riff played by none other than Jagger himself. Other highlights (how can one pick highlights from what is as close to musical perfection as we’ll ever hear?) include the raw, gospel-tinged delta blues of ‘You Gotta Move’;  the harrowing drug-overdose hell of ‘Sister Morphine’, featuring Ry Cooder on slide guitar -- listen and shiver; and the contemptuous  sneer of  ‘Dead Flowers’, a rather biting attack on an ex, delivered in a mock Country and Western accent and including the immortal line: “I’ll be in my basement room, with a needle and a spoon, and another girl to take my pain away.”

In fact, the album is riddled throughout with references to various illicit pharmaceuticals. ‘Brown Sugar’ is actually a raunchy slave-trade metaphor for heroin, whereas ‘Moonlight Mile’ includes the cocaine reference “… with a head full of snow” – Just in case you were wondering where the name of this blog came from. ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knocking’ mentions “… Ya’ll got cocaine eyes, Yeah you got speed-freak jive”. And ‘Sway’ has the rather abstract line: “Did you ever wake up to find, A day that broke up your mind, Destroyed your notion of circular time…” If it doesn’t reference drugs, it must be written as a result of their use.

THE AUDIO

The audio on my systems the audio is superb, top stereo no distortion at all, virtually silent between tracks, it plays through with no skips, jumps, pops or clicks, apart from the very odd bit and I mean very odd bit I hardly heard any, of static/quiet ticks it sounds absolutely superb in my opinion . The only area I heard anything worth mention was towards the end of 'Wild Horses' I heard a few light ticks certainly nothing loud enough to be seriously detrimental to the overall audio quality. (Obviously with an album of this age an odd bit of static has to be allowed for.) I would rate the audio easily as Near Mint.

THE VINYL

On initial visual inspection the vinyl is very clean looks beautiful and lays perfectly flat on the turntable with no sounding needle marks or scratches that would effect on the audio, not a trace of groovewear. Only under a angled light can any slight storage / sleeve removal type marks be seen. 

THE LABELS 

The Rolling Stones labels look superb, with their original appearance, clean with no marks or writing with a minimal amount of spidering, hardly any in fact, see photos. The spindle holes are perfectly round very tight no signs of wear, exceptionally rare to find in a 39 year old record.

THE COVER 

The original cover, with a fully working zip, is clean with no writing or marks and shows only a very minimal amount of wear, no splits or tears. The front 'belt buckle' die cut area has only a tiny amount of creasing, many don't survive. The rear of the cover is`again very clean with only the usual small zipper storage impression worth mentioning. The corners and edges again are great with barely any wear, the spine is pretty square and straight minimal amount of wear with only slight rubbing visible on the title writing, again remarkable for a 39 year old cover. The original inner is very tidy, it has no tears or writing, the rear (opposite side to Stones photo), does have some blue tack residue marks, the photo side is in top condition. 

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
