Original 1965 English-made release for US market with "Satisfaction" - FIRST STEREO UK PRESSING - LONDON FFRR.This is the original July 30, 1965 FIRST STEREO UK PRESSING, US market version of The Rolling Stones "Out of Our Heads" PS 429 released by LONDON records made in England by DECCA records.
The cover photo identifies this as the US market version (but not a US pressing - see below). The track "Satisfaction" (the UK release version did NOT include "Satisfaction") on this record was the first big hit by the Stones in the US, so this record is the last release before the Stones "blew up" in the USA and their records began to be mass-produced in the US. This album eventually reached sales of over 1 million, so this is a rare chance to get an early release version of a mega-selling record.
NOTE in the photo of the record label that the FFRR logo is BOXED and above is stated "MADE IN ENGLAND BY THE DECCA RECORD COMPANY". This identifies this LP as the original British made first stereo pressing version which is rare. The mass produced Stones LPs pressed in the US do not have the FFRR logo or the boxed London logo. As with most records released in 1964-65, there were more mono records available than stereo, thus the higher value for EARLY stereo editions like this one.
FFRR stands for Full Frequency Range Recording. Developed by DECCA records, this was the first record pressing technology that could capture up to 15,000 Hz frequency on the disc. These FFRR Lps were pressed for only a short period of time, and are sought after by collectors for their sound quality. With the strong comeback of analog, good vintage LP's are getting much harder to find as collectors hoard them.
The LP is in very good condition, with a deep gloss (see photo). There is a light scuff on the lead-in of side 2 track 1. The label is also in very good condition with sharp silver text against a deep blue background. LP comes in original plastic lined FFRR plastic sleeve in good condition.
The jacket is is remarkably good condition. Other than the natural yellowing of the paper, I don't think you could expect a 40 year old record jacket to be in such superb condition.
I'm fairly certain that this record has been played very few times. I've had it in my possession since the early 1980's, and never played it myself for fear of groove wear, since I didn't have a good turntable. Now I've got an analog guru audiophile friend so we cleaned it on his VPI record cleaner and played it on his $3000 Basis Audio turntable to check it.
The record played well with surprisingly low surface noise. It sounded a bit "bright" because his phono stage did not have the exact FFRR EQ curve, but the amount of high frequency information means the grooves are not worn. If you don't have a multi-curve phono stage (like the Graham Slee Jazz Club), just adjust the tone controls to your taste (my friends high-end preamp did not have tone controls). A bit of bass boost below 500 Hz and a slight treble cut at 10 KHz should do the trick.
