Album Title: Let it Bleed
Producer(s): Jimmy Miller.
Chief Engineer: Glyn Johns.
Assistant Engineers: Bruce Botnick, Jerry Hansen and George Chiantzalias.
Cat Number: SKL 5025.

Side 2:Midnight Rambler; You Got the Silver; Monkey Man; You Can’t Always Get What You Want.
Label/Format: Decca – early boxed stereo format.
Label Conditions: Both in fabulous conditions, rich colour and fresh looking. Just the odd faint spindle trace or two, this stunning record looks barely even played reitterated by nigh-on pristine sound.
Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.
Weight of this Record: 133 grams. [These days, many modern Audiophile reissues are pressed on super-heavyweight 180 gram vinyl. Only a small percentage of ‘vintage vinyl’ was ever pressed this heavy. Records pressed in the 1960s averaged around 140 to 150 grams. Records pressed in the 1970s were usually lighter and averaged more around 115 – 125 grams. Some records pressed around 1973 were very thin and light due an oil crisis and shortage around this time. Some records were even issued on recycled vinyl from this period and sounded poor with crackle and surface noise evident from the very first play. If any record I buy is deemed ‘recycled’, I will never offer it, I have a very simple test to detect these records if I suspect this to be the case other than audible imperfection. Some records from this period were even pressed on other materials the most notable was ‘Dynaflex’, used by RCA around this time. Although inferior to vinyl, this at least mostly sounded reasonably acceptable but pressings on this material were wafer thin and flimsy. Beyond the 70s, records often became thinner and lighter still but most played fine but were never quite the quality as from the ‘Golden Era’]. (This was based on ‘average’ weights for 20 records from these eras. Later pressings were usually lighter still).
Country of Manufacture: England.
Rarity: Early ‘complete’ issues are scarce. One of the greatest rock albums of the 1960s, it bought that most wonderful of musical decades to a fitting end. Initially issued on the unboxed format in both mono and stereo, but the label was changed to this boxed format very shortly afterwards. Indeed, a good friend with a substantial collection of high-end quality albums, remembers clearly buying his copy within a day or two or issue and it had a boxed label, and there is nothing wrong with his memory hasten to add quickly. This is a definite second issue from the early 70s, there are subtle changes to the packaging and contents. The variations are: the cover dispensed with the poster sticker on the front. Instead, the back cover now has in print ‘(POSTER INCLUDED)’, near the top right corener. Also the peep-hole mono/stereo indicator has now gone as the mono pressing had now been deleted. The original cover was printed by Upton, this one was printed by Clout & Baker and is still Clarifoil laminated, it looks nigh-on the same but has no mention of the mono version number. The record labels changed from the large unboxed Decca format to the small boxed versions. Here the labels are smaller than the full size ones. I am fairly sure the dedicated Let it Bleed inner sleeve had also gone, but I had a spare one in stock to include anyway as it makes the set more ‘complete’. Lastly the poster, at first glance it looks the same as the very first made ones. But with close examination, the surfaces vary. The originals are made with slightly thinner paper and have a flat matt finish whereas the second printings (as here) are slightly thicker and have a more semi-gloss sheen to the artwork. Minor differences yes, but put side-by-side, they are very evident, so beware of these posters being swapped from copy-to-copy. Original unboxed copies should have a matt finished poster. Being honest, I see far fewer of these slightly later copies around especially with the cover with the printed poster text on the back. Most Stones fans bought this album at around issue time and the stereo version are not too hard to find. Complete examples in superb, barely played conditions however are a far different matter. I consider this pressing to be quite rare and finding a better all-round copy will prove difficult.
Original Year of Release: 1969. This one from the early 1970s. Later pressings dispensed of the poster.
Matrix Nos: XZAL-9363-P-2W / XZAL-9364.P-1W
Brief Artist & Album Info: One of the most collectable albums ever made, and it’s always a real pleasure offering a complete clean copy whether original or repress, mono or stereo. Finding either in barely played conditions with super cover and an unmounted poster is getting increasingly difficult. One of the genuine greatest albums ever made by one of the most popular British bands - a truly essential album to any serious vinyl collector. It was one of the last ‘new’ albums to be issued in the mono format. By then stereo had largely replaced the ageing single-channel format. Also the last Rolling Stones album to feature the presence of the band’s creator, Brian Jones. It was a brilliant culmination of all their musical influences throughout music’s greatest decade. The power of the opening track, ‘Gimme Shelter’, will haunt many forever with the memory of the Altamont murder, Jagger’s top hat and scarf and the death of the 60s. The repeated line, ‘It’s just a shot away’, complements the repetition of the naively profound lyric of the album’s last track: ‘You can’t always get what you want’. The filling in-between, like the layered cake on the cover, is equally delectable. This slightly later stereo copy on offer is complete and all parts in very fine to near immaculate conditions. The sheer pleasure in hearing what is near perfect stereo presentation is not to be taken lightly. With a record that looks hardly even played with both the playing surfaces very clean and barely even marked. It sounds simply stunning, there is no lessening of the Decca quality, a company that made the very best records ever issued, their standards rarely, if ever slipped and this is a wonderful quality record. If all records of this vintage were like this, I would be more than happy, thus never the case of course. Many virtually worn-out, taken out to friends, used at parties and with playing surfaces amassed with scuffs, deep scratches, dulled tired looks and swathed in fingermarks – we have all seen them – I will not offer records remotely like that. This is a lovely all-round example and it could well be just the one you have been waiting for.
This Cover’s Potential for Wear: High: Always prone to laminate blistering, creasing and dulling. The back, ringwear, rubbing and grubbiness. When one is seen like this they can be enjoyed to maximum advantage.
Cover Condition and Details: Strong Excellent+ and a real looker. A single format, the front is laminated with Clarifoil, this wraps around the closed edges and on the back via the spine. This one includes the ‘(POSTER INCLUDED)’ text on the back. I truly think these are rarer than the stickered ones. This has NO peep-hole mono/stereo indicator. It was printed and made in England by Clout & Baker Ltd. One of most famous covers ever produced and lovely clean and little worn example does it excellent justice. This will please most collectors.
Cover Lamination and Front: Firstly, can I make this clear, this cover is made from thin and delicate card making this sleeve very vulnerable to most forms of wear. This front looks fantastic and almost as clean and fresh as new. It has gorgeous lustre and shine with super clarity, the famous cake will seldom look much better. Any friction rubs of dulling is very faint and little, any tiny amount present only seen with scrutiny under light. The same goes for any surface marks or creasing of which there is barely any. Adhesion is always an issue with Clarifoil laminate: here most-all is solid and attached with the exception of a really small lift near the top and bottom of the spine (but look very hard to see them). Also an equally small one near the bottom right corner, with normal viewing they barely even show. There is one small corner crease to the top left but the lack of any half moons, thumb creases or general creasing is rare and unusual. All aspects of this front are pretty exceptional and the beauty of the legendary artwork is there to be seen. Looks good enough to eat, one to be cherished.
Cover Back: The front has the advantage of laminate protection but not the back. Hence finding this back looking so incredible must not be taken for granted. Again this has defied all what time, handling and bad storage can offer. This has little to fault. Again this has almost avoided creasing bar the top of the spine that replicates the front. Marks and grubbiness are few and faint, mere traces of possible set-off near the bottom edge, any genuine marks are tiny and light indeed. Any record impression is ultra faint and I think I am safe in stating this has avoided any ringwear worthy of note, any rim impression is minuscule. The laminate end line on the spine is ultra clean and neat and devoid of any grime-line formation. The lack of scuffs and rubbing to the equally lovely artwork is great news of course and rarely seen. This more than complements the vibrant and little-blemished front, so hard like this is no understatement.
Top & Bottom Edges: Full laminate is retained with no peeling or scuffing, little short of as made and very straight too.
Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with no real wear or feathering. Crisp with any burr traces being tiny, the record entered on this vulnerable wear-prone side which is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced. The thin exposed strip on the front where the laminate ends slightly short of full width, being clean, unchipped or grubbied.
Spine and Text: An very minor small and faint crinkle near the top where the aforementioned crease is, that apart, almost as made. Very solid and straight with barely any compression. This retains a superb boxy shape and is uncrushed. All text is perfect and unworn under the very solid and uncracked laminate (and even this is shiny and fresh). Importantly, still pure white with no age toning or darkening and yes this can and does happen on laminated spines. This is a pure stereo cover with no mention of mono numbers here or anywhere else on this cover.
Corners: The spine top corner has clearly had a minor knock in the past, hence a little creasing. The other three are in beautiful shape and almost as made.
Cover Summary: In terms of classic vintage covers, this is a piece de resistance, and this will prove difficult to find much better (or like it again) especially with such a gorgeous record and unmounted poster inside. Many are carelessly stored, roughly handled or simply used and abused. This one clearly cherished, sympathetically and little handled and stored with longevity in mind. It’s paid-off, it looks really lovely and possibly not giving it the full praise or grading it really deserves. No cover can ever truly be flawless, you scrutinise closely enough, something can always be found however small. But small here is the operative word. It should please most collectors, even the more discerning. Not perfect but still a highly impressive one, and again I say, these printed poster text ones are somewhat elusive.
The Inner: I am not entirely sure if this pressing included the dedicated ‘Let it Bleed’ inner. But hey, I have a spare anyway, so I have included it. Not only that, this is the ‘uncensored’ version e.g. no black overprint on the ‘London Bach Choir’ text that was objected too. Most seen are covered over with an overprint obscuring this text. Unusually, there are no edge splits or tears and this is a very fine Excellent example. Made with thin paper that was never lined, few survive without major damage or wear. A little minor crinkle but hardly any real creases. Clean and attractive and fully intact, even the recessed top opening is very neat. This makes this superb set really complete and is a bonus for any potential winning bidder.
Poster Condition: Mint, a truly stunning poster that has possibly never been handled or unfolded until I did to take my photographs. Ultimately attractive, printed on one side only, so few survive like this. This has just two manufactured folds with no splits, weakening and no creases whatsoever. This is as fresh and clean as manufacture day. This has the slight surface sheen instead of the genuine flat matt finish of the very first made and the paper is ever-so-slightly thicker. The design is just the same, in fact this is probably slightly more pleasing to the eye than the 1969 printing. It is a highly sort-after and very important part of this album. Later pressings dropped it completely. Importantly, this is unmounted with no Blu-tack, cellotape or pin-hole marks and the back is clean, still very white and unbrowned with age (please see my back picture). Not even a single tone spot or handling marks – once fingermarks are applied to it’s surface, they are virtually impossible to remove. A fantastic example of this elusive insert and it should delight all collectors, these are getting increasingly difficult to find like this.
Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Mint(-), almost asking myself why the minus? A superb visual copy that is super clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A copy hardly even played on all the evidence with any surface trace blemishes minusule, barely anything even worthy of mention. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors again.
Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippetts or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This truly beautiful stereo record plays up to its high visual grading with nothing to fault. This has strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is superb with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Fully focused and quiet audio quality, this is a gateway into the recording studio itself and will provide years of flawless sound if treated with respect it deserves. So many examples subjected to heavy needle abuse, badly marked and totally worn out. This copy has avoided such traumas and even on revealing modern equipment gives the ultimate sound the connoisseur audiophile listener demands. Even the ultimately difficult final song with its fragile choir plays supremely well and this is never easy. The stereo imagery is highly impressive and with such lovely clarity and sharpness, this is an immensely pleasureable record. Both channels are clean and sharp with no noises, often caused by uneven wear by misaligned or chipped stylus. Clearly well stored and carefully handled within a non-smoking environment. Nothing at all spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove immensely difficult to find better and is strongly recommended to all collectors.
End Piece: Although not a first edition, high grading copies are still hard to find and fewer are coming available on the open market. I am a critical listener and I would never personally buy a copy of this album that has not been play-graded, this is a minimum mandatory service for any potential buyer of this hugely important record. Groovewear or damage cannot be seen – the hidden enemy – and I have heard really disappointing copies of this and other classics that have even been unmarked, but play with unwanted groove sounds and clipping. This record has NO high frequency clipping, distortions, horrible pressing noises or crackle. Many regard it as the ultimate Stones album and it remains totally essential - it’s the cornerstone of any serious collection – the cherry on the famous cake. This play-graded on a ruthlessly revealing deck that brings out all the wonderful details and all what’s good about vinyl (unfortunately the bad too, if present, but not here). It’s clear detailed sound takes you almost into the recording studio itself and this is real joy. Do not undervalue the stereo version, the mono one is far harder to find, both I feel are essential. It’s a title that always features high in any all-time greats list whether compiled by critics or the record buying public. It’s classic stature and timeless brilliance is etched into these vintage grooves. With the correct care, this fine record will last indefinitely and give pleasure for many more years. With such lovely audio quality, very clean labels, a super cover and inner, and finally, an immaculate, as close to Mint unmounted poster as they get, this is a memorable copy that should delight most collectors seeking it. One to value and treasure and without any doubt, one that will prove a great sounding investment too. But for now, just enjoy the music.
Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, a couple more at weekends if time permits, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirety, not just bits to guess a grade - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story. I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get and scanned labels will give a more accurate representation of the genuine colour than flash photography where light is variable. I cannot guarantee total accuracy for colours however but most will be very close. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert and vice-versa. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic, and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps, sticks, warps or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.
Equipment Used for Play-Grading: I now play-grade ALL the records I offer (unless clearly stated to the contrary) on the following equipment:Deck: Linn LP12/Hercules/Cirkus with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Rondo Red moving coil cartridge (tracks at 2 grams). Amps: Naim Nait 5i with Project USB phono stage and Chord interconnects. Speakers: B&W 704 Floorstanding 3-way Monitors (bi-wired with QED Silver terminated cable). All records I offer on Ebay are cleaned on a professional Moth vacuum machine before play-grading for the cleanest and best possible sound and will include a brand new lined inner and protective cover too.
First-time, zero-rated bidders, who do not ask permission to bid, will be cancelled immediately and blocked – NO exceptions. For winning bidders who I consider excessively slow to make contact or submit payment, I will use my right to block future bids. If any bidder who wins in the final seconds is present to do so, surely they can at least email me to inform of intention and payment method? If swift or promp payment is a problem, please do not bid.
PACKING - THIS IS WHAT YOU GET - PLEASE SEE MY TYPICAL PACKING BOX PICTURE.
What You Get: To confirm to the strict Ebay rules on shipping, I must now send ALL my packets ‘Signed-For’ with NO exceptions. Both buyers and sellers want their packets to have a safer journey and this is not a bad thing.
I now offer the fastest possible posting, often the very next day after payment is received or within two to three days maximum (unless on holiday). I only use FIRST-CLASS Mail. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my Moth Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional thick boxes (NOT Mailers or Cruciforms, these do not offer maximum protection). The record(s) REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with THREE or EVEN FOUR ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. The thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. Printed address labels are used for clarity as well as a sender label. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if at all possible but ‘Signed-For’ posting is NOT an option anymore. Please see my picture of a typical finished box packet that will now be used on ALL transactions as from now. I do not profit on posting and the cost of this lavish packing is NOT even charged for, I offer probably the best-value and safest shipping possible for ultimate confidence. These boxes and ultra thick double-wall stiffners and bubble wrap make a near impregnable fortress for safe shipping and this is used inland and overseas for ALL my records, not just the rare and expensive. I will invoice any winning bidder as soon as possible after the auction ends. My ‘loss’ or ‘damage rate’ is less than one in two thousand based on over 6,000+ items sold in over 8 years of Ebay trading and I consider that pretty exceptional. The only damage rate acceptable for this seller is ZERO and I think my packets will offer just that. It would take a vicious postman or postal service to damage these for sure. Even one of these stiffners cannot be bent by hand, so what chance 3 or 4 inside a box? Oneadayrecords is a MAILER-FREE ZONE. I discount of course for multiple purchases with a maximum of FOUR records per box (one double can sometimes be included subject to total weight). I will not respond to questions on shipping costs as all the details are included here and on ALL of my adverts. Details below:
NOTE: First Time Bidders: I will cancel ALL first-time bidders with no feedbacks or excessive negatives who do not ask me if its OK to bid first – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please Note: I will now offer any item to the runner-up after the mandatory Ebay 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder unless prior notice of any delay is given beforehand. The same applies if no payment is received within the mandatory 7 days so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance – it’s always worth asking.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE
My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.
The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
