ROLLING STONES Aftermath ORIG UK DECCA GROOVED MONO 1960s BEAT

The Rolling Stones, Aftermath.

Original 1966 UK pressed Decca mono LP, LK 4786.

Earliest pressing on the unboxed red and silver label with distinctive Decca groove.

Matrix Numbers: XARL-7209-1B / XARL-7210-3A.

Mothers/Stampers: GC 1 / GK 2B.

Vinyl a visual VG minus. A number of spider trail marks are visible around the spindle areas, but not to the point of wear or whitening. Playing surfaces still have a good gloss, although display some hairline scuff marks, and some very light hairline scratches, some of which are more immediately visible. There are no really deep or problematic scratches or gouges. The surfaces are not a network of fine marks, and are not greyed.

Overall playback graded as G. Although free of loud and consecutive clicks this is a slightly ticky LP. However the mono cut is still loud and bright and not distorted. Background noise is mostly behind the music, although slightly louder to the second track, and more notceable on the quieter tracks, such as "Lady Jane".

Overall still a listenable LP, and better than the majority of extant copies, but the background tickiness can sometimes be a little distracting.

Labels are clean and undefaced and still with an acceptable gloss.

Original inner sleeve is VG with some age toning and creasing.

External sleeve has some tan staining to rear (see photo), else is a better than usual survivor. A small closed tear to bottom right corner of front panel. Else front panel fairly clean and tidy with just minor imperfections. Still fairly crisp and not really tired and worn or brittled. Spine still intact with all print legible, and other edges neat and tidy and without feathering. Tips have the most fractional dots of rubbing and corners are still nice and square bar the creased/torn area at bottom right.

This sleeve variant has internal backflaps.

In summary not perfect, but a better than average issue and with a fairly well preserved sleeve.
