Description
Legendary recording sessions at Chess Studios in 1964 and 1965 with fantastic sound. Released in 2010 on Swinging Dog, this is the first time the complete sessions with all the full versions have been released in this format. See scan 2 for a complete track listing.
Here is some interesting information on selected tracks:
Time Is On My Side (Version 1) with the organ intro was recorded at Regent Sound London in May 1964. Version 2 is the only Chess version and also features a more prominent guitar line.
2120 SMA first appeared on the 5 x 5 EP in edited form (along with If You Need Me, Empty Heart, Confessin The Blues and Around and Around), this longer version includes a long guitar solo by KR which has (wrongly, I think) been credited to Muddy Waters who turned up on the 11th June. He was not "painting the ceiling" as Keith has stated in various interviews.
Little Red Rooster was never recorded at Chess. It's from Regent Studios, London, 2.9.64.
Fanny Mae was recorded at Chess on the same day as Under Assistant (May 10th) and it sounds as if Under Assistant is a direct steal of it. Fannie Mae was later recorded live at the BBC.
Don't Lie To Me (not Don't YOU Lie To Me) appeared on Metamorphosis, a Decca album of rough stuff released after Stones had left them.
Both records, labels and cover are mint.
