Description

Very Rare Original Early 1971 **1st Press** **Large Chunky Zip** UK Pressing 'Sticky Fingers' by The Rolling Stones, with Rare Insert and Original Working Zip in SUPERB Condition Throughout!!! Not to be Mistaken for the Common European Re-Pressing - This is the Original Earliest Possible UK (COC Cat No.) **Large Zip** 1971 UK 1st Pressing!!! The Holy Grail of UK Rolling Stones 1st Pressings!!!

Here is another gem from my own mostly Nr Mint personal collection (which I am selling off gradually to lessen the pain...) After selling one of my pristine Nr Mint UK 1st Press copies of Sticky Fingers with the rare Large Zip here on eBay, a lot of you have emailed asking if I have any more, especially the very rare earliest UK 1st press 'Large Zip' variant.  Well, I have decided to release one more of these from my collection. Please read on...

You are bidding on the earliest possible UK Pressing of Sticky Fingers with original Mega Rare **Large Zip** and Original colour Insert! So where do I start with his record? It is quite simply the rarest UK Rolling Stones pressing you will see, bar none. There are a number of features that mark it as standing out from all others; I will explain. Let's start with the zip feature. This record has the Mega Rare 'Large Chunky Zip 1st Issue Cover'!!! Only a tiny amount were ever pressed with this cover in the UK and they are virtually impossible to find. These were from the very first batch that ever rolled off the presses. They were almost immediately discontinued and replaced with a much smaller square-ended zipper sleeve. This was allegedly due to the fact that the larger zip was causing problems when packaged for distribution to retail outlets. As it was a large zip, it left indents in the back of the record in front. This was noticed almost immediately and the much smaller zip was immediately introduced to alleviate the problem. I have been collecting vinyl for a very long time in the UK and have only ever seen 2 or 3 of these large zip variants, believe me, they are very, very rare!!!  You will probably have to push the boat out a bit for this one as the bidding will be high, but whoever wins this record can rest assured that they will be the owners of one of the very last 'Large Zip' variants left in existence today - good luck!

There is another very important feature marking this as a very rare record; the condition. Let me explain further. The first UK pressings of the legendary LP were made very cheaply back in 1971 and and as a result virtually EVERY copy that turns up today has suffered severe deterioration of the playing surfaces; to put it another way - they play horribly. With severe loud cracking and loud pops right the way through the tracks; the acoustic intro's to 'Wild Horses', 'I got the blues' and 'Sister Morphine' being particular problem areas usually rendering the tracks unlistenable. If you have a UK pressing of this record, throw it on now and you will see exactly what I am talking about. This is a real issue with these pressings and even copies that appear to have a blemish free playing surface will often, upon playing, show this severe aural deterioration and will at best 'hiss' most of the way through (at worst be unlistenable & full of annoying loud crackles and pops). It is a well known problem and everybody is always on the lookout for that magical copy that plays Mint-. As for this particular copy, although not completely silent, it plays superbly. There is background crackle present on the quieter passages but it is definitely in the top 20% I have heard. Visually it looks superb, easily Ex++, and I would conservatively play grade it as Excellent-

**Please Note** The winner of my last *Large Zip* A1//B1 Sticky Fingers 1st pressing auction sent me an exasperated email after the auction saying he had been sent over 5 unwanted messages from unscrupulous eBay members offering him inferior re-pressings at slightly cheaper prices. These all proved to be sellers with either European re-pressings or chancers with regular *small zip* pressings. To prevent  the same happening again I have decided to protect my winners ID to save them all this unwanted spam. It's not something I usually do but I don't want a repeat of this.

The record still retains ALL of its original gloss and shine and has NO dulling and NO nasty greying of the grooves!!! It has NO scratches or hairlines, just the occasional wispy paper-line or two. It also has NO nasty skips or jumps and, as mentioned above, it plays with just some light pops and crackles, only really audible during the quieter passages and between tracks - it is much better than you usually hear with this record!  I have no hesitation whatsoever with visually grading this vinyl as a strong Excellent+!!! I have been a little more conservative with the play-grading giving it an Excellent-. The Classic 1st press Yellow/Black Rolling Stones centre labels are great condition with NO Tears, NO Peeling,  NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! There is some very faint wispy spindle lines and two very light patches of discolouration on the side 2 label (however they are virtually invisible- please see the images below). As mentioned above this comes with the Mega Rare classic UK 1st issue 'Large Zip' Andy Warhol-designed sleeve. At this point I would usually say that this is great shape compared to most you see today, however I have seen so few of these sleeves I really don't have much to compare it against!!! It is nice and clean with no major faults at all. It has very little of the grubbiness you commonly see with this sleeve. Although the small flap above the belt does have some light creasing, it is better than you unusually see, in fact on many later copies I have seen this feature has been completely ripped off! The all important *large* zip is in fine working order with with no missing teeth, kinks etc. It looks absolutely perfect, and unzips smooth and perfectly (I have only ever fully unzipped it once for this grading review as I find this causes crease damage to these fragile sleeves). There is a slight crease alongside the zip. The sleeve has a lovely satin sheen to it, and has clearly not been handled very much at all. The spine shows clear mint legible spine text. The corners and edges show some light wear and look to have a tiny pin-hole in each where this may have once been displayed (these are virtually invisible - I have owned the record for years and only noticed it during this grading report). Of course, it comes with its its original insert and correct original inner sleeve. The insert also has the pin hole in each corner. However other than this both have no serious issues or flaws other than being slightly aged. This sleeve easily grades as Very Good+ (Most would grade much higher). This is a massively rare record and is an absolutely essential addition to any high-grade Rolling Stones/Beat/Psych collection. Don't miss it and you will not see another for a very long time!!

Please refer to my 100% feedback rating for the many valuable records I have already sold for reassurance. I will be selling my entire UK 1st Press collection of 1960/70's Psych/Prog./Rock & Folk over the coming months, most of these records are in Mint- condition and many have 3 figure book prices. All will be listed here on eBay UK at a £2.99 start with No Reserve - bookmark my pages. Like the vast majority of my collection, this record has been archived upright in a thick outer PVC sleeve in a smoke & damp free environment for the best part of 20-30 years!

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards.  If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
