About “Sensational” (CSJ-385)

• Title: Sensational

• Label: (Transliterated as Chung Sheng / Zhong Sheng Record Label)

• Catalog #: CSJ-385

• Origin: Likely a Hong Kong pressing (1960s era) This company produced LPs in the 1960s - 1970s. Archives showed they started with country records in the 1960s so this is how I dated this record.  It is subject to error and may fall between the 1960's - 1970's.

What makes it unusual:

• This is a very obscure and hard to find LP.   This is because it is not an original RCA or Smash U.S. album —it’s likely  a licensed or semi-licensed compilation created for the Asian market perhaps for the tourist trade, individual collectors or for a Foreign Touring Musician touring in their county??  This was produced in a time when Roger Miller was at his peak and a loved artist in Asia with his songs King of the Road,  Dang Me,  Chug A Lug and Engine Engine #9 being Asian known favorites and often played in Asian legal and illicit  "Speakeasy's"

• It the 1960s & 1970s it was rare for  red vinyl to be used.... which was not produced often in this era except for special production,  so this was likely a specialized production for some specific reason as of now unknown and I find no record as to why.

• Likely bought as a keepsake by a tourist or by someone who lived there and later moved to the USA or sent as a gift to family they had in the USA.    This was purchased by us from  an estate of a Folkways Record Executive and in his private collection.
