Description
RL LED ZEPPELIN II Hot Mix 1st U.S. 1969 Robert Ludwig Mastered on Atlantic Records SD 8236.
Infamous Hot Mix mastered by Robert Ludwig featuring a full and bassy mix that was quickly ganked to make way for a tamer version.
Monarch Pressing Plant Los Angeles as indicated by the "MO" on the labels. RL and SS ateched on both sides of vinyl. The Monarch pressing of this title really shine as an example of what rock mastering should be. Full and booming bass with a wide and clear soundstage!
VINYL in VG condition with several light hairlines and scuffs. I noticed two jumps right at the beginning of "Whole Lotta Love", one after "All the good times baby I've been........." and after "Gonna give you my love....". Other than that, no skips with solid VG rated audio all around. The quieter segments have more pronounced crackle, but none is overpowering. Solid listen, I tested it on headphones and speakers.
COVER in VG condition with staining/yellowing on white areas, corner bumps/wear, sleeve split 1" at bottom opening 2" on top opening. Top seam have rubbing, bottom seam has rubbing and chipping in places, spine readable with rubbing and some chipping on edges. 2" split in inner gatefold (see photos).
LP shipped in proper mailer with vinyl removed o prevent splitting.
Notes
US 1st pressing, featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.Labels include "MO" suffix (indicating Monarch pressing) and "Mfg By Atlantic Recording Corp., 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.". On all matrix Side A and Side B there is "MR" in a circle that identify a Monarch pressing.
Some copies came with one or two hype stickers: one mentioning Whole Lotta Love and the other with a tracklisting.
