Description
A lovely copy of this sought-after performance of Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, performed by the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam, with solo violin by Herman Krebbers, conducted by Kirill Kondrashin.
The vinyl sounds superb. Original lined inner. I have transplanted the vinyl into a brand-new paper liner to protect the sleeves in transit.
There was some very slight mottling on the white sleeve, most of which wiped off, but the odd faint mark remains. Overall a fantastic copy. Probably better than the one I am keeping!
As I said, luckily, I have two copies, as I could not lose this it is such a wonderful album.
"Kirill Petrovich Kondrashin, (Russian: Кири́лл Петро́вич Кондра́шин, Kirill Petrovič Kondrašin; 6 March [O.S. 21 February] 1914 – 7 March 1981) was a Soviet and Russian conductor. Kondrashin defected from the Soviet Union in December 1978 while touring in the Netherlands and sought political asylum there, whereupon the Soviet regime immediately banned all his previous recordings.[citation needed] He took the post of Permanent Guest Conductor of Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1978 and remained in that position until his death."
"Scheherazade, also commonly Sheherazade (Russian: Шехеразада, tr. Shekherazada, IPA: [ʂɨxʲɪrɐˈzadə]), Op. 35, is a symphonic suite composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 1888 and based on One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights).
This orchestral work combines two features typical of Russian music in general and of Rimsky-Korsakov in particular: dazzling, colorful orchestration and an interest in the East, which figured greatly in the history of Imperial Russia, as well as orientalism in general. The name "Scheherazade" refers to the main character Scheherazade of the One Thousand and One Nights. It is one of Rimsky-Korsakov's most popular works."
