 Riley Puckett was sometimes jokingly refered to as the "Bald Mountain Caruso" since he was about as famous as it got in the world of country music, circa 1927. He hooked up with fiddler Gid Tanner in 1924 and recorded a dozen songs for Columbia. They were the first country-music artists to record for that firm.

As a charter member of the new hit act string band Gid Tanner and His Skillet Lickers he continued to record with the group through their last session in 1934. Puckett recorded as a solo artist into the early 1940s, creating a discography of more than 200 records on such labels as Columbia, Decca, and Bluebird. His repertoire included novelty songs, religious songs, traditional folk songs, cowboy songs, and ballads from the field of popular music.

This one’s got a pair of songs for Columbia that have him paired up with Clayton McMichen. They’re both from a session on April 2, 1927.

This is real old timey guitar playing and country singing. This is a 15232-D and is one of those 'new process' recordings so it started off with a pretty clean surface – and still has it!
