FOR AUCTION:-

RIC COLBECK QUARTET - THE SUN IS COMING UP

1970 UK Fontana LP      6383 001      Stereo

Top UK / European free jazz rarity!

This copy has hand-written promo or test press white labels (which perhaps makes it rarer still) - but be assured it is the genuine item not an unauthorised contemporary repress.

The fully-laminated cover is the same as on the commercial release, as are the machine-stamped matrices in the deadwax:-

6383001  1Y//1?420  1 1    1

6383001  2Y//1?420  1 1    1

Colbeck was a rather cool and adventurous Englishman who took his trumpet to New York in the sixties and performed on Noah Howard's first two releases on ESP. This session was recorded at Chalk Farm Studios in London in 1970 with Mike Osborne (alto), J F "Jenny" Clark (bass) and Selwyn Lissack (drums). To my knowledge, it has never been commercially re-issued in any format.

GRADING:-
RECORD - Side 1 is NM-   Looks pretty much pristine under normal conditions - but light sleeve scuffs can be seen when viewed under halogen light. Plays great (occasional light background ticks                     audible in the quiet sections).
Side 2 is EX-   There is a horizontal band of small (4mm) smudge like scuffs across a small section of the record edge - which cause some ticks and 3 or 4 light clicks during the quiet intro                   to the first track. There is also more sleeve scuffing visible under bright light than there is on side 1 - and, unlike on side 1, I heard other ticks, and perhaps 3 or 4 isolated clicks/pops, in                     addition to those just mentioned.   LABELS - NM   Pristine bar the lightest hint of a spindle mark on side 2. The title details are neatly hand-written in blue ink.

COVER - EX+   Very clean and bright. Solid seams and spine, with no wear and no splits. Dinged and creased on the top left corner, a light crease on the top right corner, and a hint of wear on the bottom right corner. 6cm of laminate lift on the front near the bottom of the spine and a few very short and light creases in the laminate on both sides at the cover edges. No stickers or writing. Plain stock poly-lined inner (which looks as though it may not be the original).

I will be liquidating a large part of my record collection over coming weeks - including some very nice "top end" and hard to find items in all genres - but particularly jazz, free jazz, soul jazz, bossa, dub, reggae and such like - please watch out for them................

                                                               ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRADING SCALE:   M/NM/EX/VG/G(+/-) visual grading - only play tested if specifically indicated above. NM is near mint not mint - I do not use M except for an unplayed record.

[I will give a full no quibble refund (excluding return postage) on safe return of the record if you are not happy with my grading]

QUESTIONS?    If you wish to know anything about the item which is not covered above (or by the shipping terms below), please feel free to ask........

PACKAGING:    Your record will be securely packaged, with the record (in its inner sleeve) outside the main cover to avoid damage to the cover. Records with non-stock inner sleeves will be placed in a separate plain inner sleeve to avoid damage to the original inner.

I use custom box mailers, and card stiffeners for additional protection. No charge will be made for packaging. Recycled (but secure) packaging may be used where available.

SHIPPING COSTS AND PAYMENT TERMS:

Royal Mail's new and increasingly complex April 2013 pricing structure has significantly increased postage costs from the UK and significantly decreased compensation levels for lost or damaged items.

As a result of the reduced compensation levels, I regret that ITEMS SELLING FOR MORE THAN £20 WILL ONLY BE SENT BY A SIGNED FOR OR TRACKED AND FULLY INSURED METHOD OF SHIPPING

Please note the new prices below and AWAIT INVOICE BEFORE PAYING

                 - Shipping costs are Royal Mail's actual prices (or less) and no charge is made for packaging or handling. If I miscalculate the actual cost, a full refund of any excess will be promptly made.

                 - I will gladly combine shipping if you win additional items - based on combined weight (up to 2kg max for overseas packages).

                 - Payment is due within 3 days of invoice please (unless other arrangements have been agreed before bidding).

                 - Please contact me on close of auction if you are still bidding on other items or anticipate any delay in payment.

                 - Item may be relisted if payment is not received within 7 days.

                 UK BUYERS -

Payment by PayPal, cheque or postal order please.

If the item sells for more than £50, shipping to the UK (by special delivery guaranteed by 1pm) is £7.00 (it is actually £8.25 but Ebay will not allow me to charge more than £7).

                 OVERSEAS (OUTSIDE UK) BUYERS -

                 PayPal only please.

If the item sells for more than £50, the shipping cost (by international signed-for airmail with full compensation cover) to:-

                          Europe is £14.30

                          Australia/NZ/Australasia is £18.30

                          USA/Japan/Rest of World* is £17.80

Buyer to pay all customs duties and taxes. The winning bid price will be specified as the value on the customs declaration for buyers outside the European Union.

                 * Please note that the Royal Mail postage charge to certain countries outside Europe (e.g. Russia, Turkey) is the same as to Europe. If the Ebay postage calculator gives an incorrect

higher figure for such countries, I will refund the excess - or please contact me before paying and I will issue an invoice with the correct shipping charge.

[The above prices are based on an estimated package weight of just over 500g for a securely packed single LP. If the actual package weight is below 500g, the shipping cost will be

less and an appropriate refund will be promptly given where applicable]
