LO SPORT volumes 1 and 2 - ITALIAN LIBRARY (2 x Lp) by REMIGIO DUCROS / DANIELA CASA and GIANPIERO RICCI Original Italian promo pressing on the deep groove UNION label (ULP 70), from 1971. Ultra-obscure Italian Library. Considered to be one of the most elusive and desirable of the genre. Hotter than hot item that never really comes up for sale ;) A double Lp of creative mood music inspired by the ever thrilling jet-set world of sport :) Recorded at Piero Umiliani's Sound Work Shop studio in Rome by Claudio Budassi (the engineer - sound technician behind La Ragazza Fuoristrada / Traffico on RRC / Suonano I Mark 4 - Paesaggi / Questo Sporco Mondo Meraviglioso / Santucci Scoppa - Olimpiade etc). Ducros is the mastermind and keyboard player behind Lo Sport and his psychedelic musical interpretations of early '70s Young America is again evident on this particular session (variations of his "Black Congregation" piano lick is mashed up and snuck into certain themes too :) The beautifully androgynous Daniela Casa was the funky girl playing all the stoned fuzz distortions and was also one of the scat vocalists on Lo Sport. Gian Piero Ricci is a lot more mysterious (for us anyway) but he once recorded for the Lupus label with Daniela Casa. 4 killer themes from Lo Sport were comped on Sovrapposizione Di Immagini by the Finders Keepers label and another on the Criminale series by Penny Records but in general, this is still a practically unknown grail. Part stoned and aggressive - part stylish and elegant with eclectic themes from underground rock with punishing fuzz and B-boy drums / groovy pop and jazz to Brazilian samba and scat lounge from baroque to exotic. Infectious arrangements with mood changing atmospheres. Some obsessive with heavy instrumentation / some uplifting and sophisticated / others with dub production or with sound FX cum field recordings of crowd noises in a sports arena / speedway racing cars / motorcyle engines revving etc etc. Our soundclip opens with the crunching hip hop drum breaks and America Giovane-esque funk groove of CANOTTAGGIO by Ducros then Ricci's fabulous GALOPPO (with crazy congas) / Daniela Casa's fuzz and beats drenched GROSSE CILINDRATE and MOTOCROSS / the bewitching scat lounge masterpiece VELA (with a west coast free soul cum Sven Libaek ambience) / the equally sublime LA FINE DI UN CAMPIONE (think mellow Santucci Scoppa jazz waltz with phased horns) into the bizarre human sighs and exploding bubble sounds of SUBACQUEO and beyond. Several other little known themes including BOB / SCI / NUOTO / SONO PARTITI / AUTODROMO / SCI D'ACQUA / VIRTUOSISMO GENERICO / BOXE / ULTIMI MINUTI and the horror film style spooky interlude L'INCIDENTE have also been recorded. Our soundclip finishes with the trippy sitar lounge of SPORT ORIENTALE - CERIMONIALE and LOTTA version with tabla drums. Great for DJs and a big record with certain Japanese collectors. This double item was no doubt an advance copy intended for a RAI music journalist / radio station or television house, hence no original gatefold sleeve. The potential winner should also note that this auction will obviously count as 2 records for postage. Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Double vinyl is in shiny, strong VG+ condition overall with hairlines / light scuffs and speckled old marks from the original pressing process. All themes play with varying degrees of light surface noises (the vinyl of these Union pressings are not top quality either) with audible soft pops / ticks to certain themes (as you can hear on our soundclip). A mini light scratch causes some soft ticks midway "Apnea" theme. Audible ticks / noises to finale of "Mondo Sommerso" theme. The Gian Piero Ricco side A has the most pressing marks and therefore more noises (mostly affecting the 1st to 4th tracks in places). A few other unimportant themes on certain sides may also have some noises but have not been recorded on our soundclip. The sleeve is generic card with old cellotape residue mark to middle of top open side and small archive sticker (back sleeve). Title in felt pen to front. We have included an additional card sleeve so we can keep the records apart for safe packaging :) Both records will be housed in brand new poly-lined inners. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare double Library set!!!
