This album defined REM as a superstar group. And then there’s ‘Losing My Religion,’ R.E.M.’s first No. 1 and the best single of their career. Powered by a strumming mandolin riff by Peter Buck, and guided along by one of Stipe’s most engaging vocals, the song was an instant classic. November 2016 saw the 25th anniversary of this album which even today stands the test of time as a landmark recording. Essential.
