Description
If you're checking out this auction, you know what you're looking at -- R.E.M.'s debut single, "Radio Free Europe" b/w "Sitting Still", released on Hib-Tone Records (HT 0001) in 1981.
The 45 is the ultra-rare first release by Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Bill Berry, produced by the band and engineered by Mitch Easter. (It is the second pressing, with the Hib-Tone label address printed on the label.)
The picture sleeve is in super-fine shape, with slight ring wear on the front, a few small creases, and some small water stains along the bottom (which likely were made at Hib-Tone HQ, because I've seen the same imperfection mentioned in quite a few eBay descriptions). The sleeve has been in a mylar bag since the day it was bought.
The disc is in absolute mint condition. It has been played a few times, but it was bought after the songs had been released on Murmur, so it only got a few spins for comparison-sake. Both sides are scratch-free and are impeccable.
This is a great collectible.
