Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please “bear” that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here's a VERY SCRUFFY LOOKING single from Bob Andy on the prestigious STUDIO ONE label, produced by Coxsone Dodd.
It's number SO-206 from 1968 and the toons are "Experience" and "Let Them Say".
He had quite a career, did Mr Andy.
He was a Paragon, and much later became half of Bob And Marcia (I'll leave you to work out which half).
Not bad for a lad from a dreadful deprived background (read his harrowing Wikipedia entry) and he achieved everything despite being christened Keith.
This STUDIO ONE single is quite scruffy, from being kept in a pile with lots of other sleeve-less singles.
It has a surface resplendant with tiny scuffs, and a few small scratches, and looks fairly grim. HOWEVER it plays OK and it's quite hard to find.
Let's call it a G+++ that plays VG or better.
Buy it now, before the sirens start up.
