MEGA RARE JAZZ BLUE CHIP GRAIL – 100% AUTHENTIC 1956 TRUE FIRST PRESSING
Up for auction/sale is a beautiful, highly collectible first-pressing copy of The Red Garland Trio’s legendary debut studio album, "A Garland of Red" (Prestige PRLP 7064). Featuring the powerhouse rhythm section of Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums, this record is a holy grail for hard bop enthusiasts.
This specific copy boasts every single mandatory attribute required by audiophiles and serious collectors to guarantee its first-press status. It has been incredibly well-preserved in its original wrap.
Deadwax / Matrix Provenance Details:
- Side A Matrix: PRLP-7064-A (Hand-etched)
- Side B Matrix: PRLP-7064-B (Hand-etched) [2]
- The Plastylite "Ear": Features the famous cursive "P" / ear symbol stamped on both sides, proving it was pressed at the legendary Plastylite plant.
- The RVG Stamp: "RVG" is clearly stamped in the deadwax on both sides, mastered directly by Rudy Van Gelder [2].
- Deep Groove: Features the heavy, unmistakable deep groove indentation pressed into the center labels on both sides.
Condition Report:
- Vinyl (VG+ / Very Good Plus): The vinyl retains much of its original high-gloss luster. Under bright light, it shows some light paper scuffs and a few superficial hairlines [1]. These are strictly cosmetic and do not impact the core listening experience. The yellow/black labels are remarkably clean with minimal spindle wear and no writing [2]. It plays beautifully with the immense power, punch, and warmth typical of 1950s Plastylite pressings, with only minor, non-distracting vintage surface noise in quiet passages.
- Jacket (VG+ / Very Good Plus): The jacket is beautifully preserved. The front cover art displays fantastic color pop. The spine and edges are crisp. It is securely housed in its original protective vintage plastic wrap/shroud, which has prevented the usual ring wear and seam splits common with 1950s jackets.
