Hare Rama Hare Krishna is the quintessential Bollywood film to deal with hippies invasion of India and none other than RD Burman could have scored a better soundtrack for this. Besides being a very nice and fun movie to watch, the film takes a somewhat critical stance on this "invasion" claiming that hippies actually did not have a sincere interest in the deeper side of the Hindu or Buddhist cultures and in the movie they were shown as drug-disillusioned, degenerated long hairs who were too naive to reach their actual aim. Not far from the truth actually, besides what's also interesting is that the original Indian perception of hippies was somewhat of a "South Park" attitude some 35 years ago!!
This is the actual classic soundtrack for this legendary Dev Anand film. Features amazing cool heavy organ/guitar work and funky upbeat RD Burman psych!! Hear samples if you haven't heard this album of 'beg-borrow-or-steal' essentiality!!The music of the film was composed by Rahul Dev Burman and the lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. The songs "Dum Maro Dum" and “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” were instant hits with the youth even as “Kanchi Re Kanchi”, “Dekho O Diwano” and “Phoolon Ka Taron Ka” showed the versatility of composer R.D.
