The first Reiner/CSO sessions were held on March 6, 1954 and included Ein Heldenleben & Salome's Dance of the Seven Veils. The Zarathustra, though taped 2 days later, is often thought of as their first recording since it took the lower catalog number (LM-1806, along with Salome's Dance, as opposed to Heldenleben's LM-1807) and also since this stereo issue of August 1960 (sans Salome) represented the earliest number of any RCA LSC stereo disc. Though not dropped from Schwann until September 1963, that original issue is very scarce, and I suspect that the October 1962 issue of the second Reiner/CSO recording of Zarathustra (LSC-2609) may really have marked LSC-1806's de facto disappearance.
This is an early pressing with Serial #1-3287 of the Classic Records reissue from 1994 - now itself over fifteen years old!
