These recordings all date from early 1962. Earlier stereo recordings from the mid-50’s of Bolero, La Valse and the Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun were available on 2-Track tapes; there was also a mono recording of the Pavane from 1952 (never on tape). But these recordings of the Nocturnes and Printemps were the only ones Munch made of these works with the BSO. He later recorded all three of the Nocturnes with the ORTF Orchestra in France, but the real gem in this collection - the performance of Printemps - was not something he ever repeated in a studio recording.
The tape is in excellent condition; the box shows only minor shelf wear.
