This record is aptly titled, for everything on it - a Mendelssohn Song without Words. Kreisler's Caprice Viennois, four Shostakovich Preludes, Prokofiev's Masques, Sarasate's Caprice Basque, and the like - is of encore caliber. Kogan plays all of this music with clarity and conviction, however, and gives a finely intense account of Bloch's Nigun. Mitnik's accompaniments are well matched, and the sound is first-rate.
