RCA LSC-2314
STEREO
Stunning original 1959 RCA recording. Shaded Dog label. Stampers are 6S/4S. The LP is NEAR MINT. The record has been played and thoroughly cleaned by hand, not machine. There are some minor marks and wipe traces, none of which are audible or impede play. The jacket is MINT and spotlessly clean front and back.
Produced by Jack Pfeiffer and engineered by John Crawford, renowned figures in the American record industry, these two gorgeously lyrical violin concertos are played to the hilt by one of the great violinists of the twentieth century. Praise also goes to the elegance and intensity that Charles Munch and the BSO deliver in both concertos. The Prokofieff is delightfully barbed and brilliant, while the Mendelssohn is astonishingly warm and songful in spite of incredibly quick tempi. Both pieces were recorded in early 1958 in Boston's acoustically-famed Symphony Hall. Stunning performances! Gr-reat sound!
