Along with the recordings of Strauss' Ein Heldenleben & The Dance of the Seven Veils two days earlier, this was the product of the very first recording sessions that RCA Victor held with the Chicago Symphony under Fritz Reiner, and the very first stereo recordings the CSO ever made.  (Not to be confused with Reiner's re-make of the work in 1962, which was available on 4-track tape, never on 2-track.)

This recording was originally issued on LP in mono only (LM-1806); in the early 1960's it was briefly issued in stereo on LP (LSC-1806), but this was deleted from the catalog soon after the release of the 1962 remake.

This 2-track tape was thus the first issue of this iconic recording (regarding Reiner, Irving Kolodin was quoted as calling it "the performance of his life") in stereo - and the very first of the RCA Stereo 2-tracks; the first reference I can find to it comes in Clough & Cuming's World Encyclopedia of Recorded Music, which covered releases through December of 1955.
