RAY OWEN’S MOON – Same ORIG Polydor LP / 2425 061 (UK, Stereo, 1971)
Happy to present this sole UK LP from the very talented but sadly overlooked Ray Owen, one of the rarest titles on UK Polydor! Features heavy Hendrix style riffing and even some early electronics. Interesting album!
The single format, non-laminated, heavily textured sleeve is in VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition. It’s a very fragile sleeve and would easily be EX or higher were it not for storage rubs to the top and bottom edges and the spine, also some corner softening/rubbing. Rest assured that there are no splits though and the front and back panels (great artwork) are still VERY pleasing. Apart from some tiny spine edge creases there are NO creases and no real ring wear either. In spite of the rubbing on the spine (moderate not heavy) all the text is still strong, visible and legible. No writing and no tears or repairs. No real feathering to the still sharp opening edges. Like I say just general storage rubs around the edges/corners only – textured panels front and back have avoided this. Above average example of this type of non-laminate.
The classic red Polydor labels show maybe 3 or 4 spindle trails mainly to one side, hardly any to the other. Couple of fingerprints if held up to light but NO writing, soiling, stickers, residue. Great labels if the truth be told!
The medium weight 1971 vinyl is more than satisfactory. Hardly anything to fault here and it looks VERY seldom played (3 times max is my guess). Lovely unblemished surfaces with full shine. One tiny dust pocket, maybe some super fine sleeve removal lines but hey, you need a magnifying glass to be picky here. NO scratches, scuffs, visible hairlines. NO embedded dirt. THIS LOOKS LOVELY! I’ll err on the cautious side and give it an EX+ (Excellent Plus) grade but really 9 out of 10 would call this mint! IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays superbly. There are a handful and light ticks, mainly on Side 1 and a few clicks on the outro to Side 2 but for its 40 years this rocks. Turn it up! NO loud pops, distortion or loss of clarity. Playgrade is just underneath the visual one – little to fault.
Very rare original UK heaviness. Seldom seen. Grab this it shouldn’t disappoint. No reserve.
