Description

Here's a rare bird.  Sammy Davis Jr. sings three different versions of the infamous Peter Epsteen commercial made in Chicago at the "request" of a "friend" of Frank Sinatra.  The melody is "Chicago (That Toddlin' Town)," but the lyrics are clever special material about Peter Epsteen Pontiac in Skokie, Illinois, once the nation's largest-volume Pontiac dealer.  Davis sings it enthusiastically and creatively -- differently each time -- and it really swings.  The first-rate accompaniment (by trumpet, piano, guitar, bass and drums) varies as well.  Each track is announced.

The performances were recorded in the early to mid 60s on tape, then a very few discs were pressed for Epsteen Pontiac for dissemination to radio stations.  This is one of the surviving discs.  Only one of the three takes has ever been issued, on a CD entitled "Dino at the Sands."  The sound quality of the disc is excellent, exceeding anything on that CD or the internet.
This one-sided record plays at 33 rpm.  It is in VG condition.  There are a few light, surface scratches that occasionally sound unobtrusively.  There is a little white streaking from palmitic acid that has no effect on play; if you wish, it can be removed with mineral oil, followed by Dawn dishwashing detergent.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing.  I know how to pack records.  I'll ship this rare item only by priority mail.
