Description

DESCRIPTION:
American composer Ferde Grofe (1892-1972) wrote "Valley of Enchantment" for the 25th "Summer of Music" camp at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. As guest director, he led the Revelli's Honors Band in the world premier performance of the piece on August 22, 1958. Grofe introduced the work as being only his second symphonic suite for band. The performance was recorded by Denver radio station KOA.

Two years later, on June 6, 1960, Grofe inscribed and autographed this privately pressed red vinyl disc of that recording, and presented it to Beryl Marston (unknown).

Other than the original tape, which is housed in The Library of Congress, no other copy of this recording is known to exist--no other examples of this record have ever surfaced! This is a truly unique piece of American music history, and a one-of-a-kind artifact from one of America's greatest composers!

CONDITION:
Cover is VG with yellowing and taped top & bottom seams. Grofe's inscription and signature have been covered over to preserve them with clear tape by a previous owner. Disc is VG with numerous light marks but plays OK. Labels are NM and new-looking. Grofe's inscription and signature on Side B are perfectly preserved. Very listenable and displayable!
