RARE 1971 ORIGINAL FIRST PRINTING in gatefold cover ... this was a highly interesting progressive/psych crew who made at least two important albums. Harder to find was the Pink Floyd produced "Asmoto's Running Band" second album ...
While their sound is mostly a fusion of prog folk and psych folk there were clear prog rock and psych rock elements in their FIRST album. The Asmoto Running Band includes even more influences from those genres.
It was two years after The Magic Theater's first album that this second album was release. Produced by Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and issued on the Dandelion label, their follow-up SECOND album emerged in the form of The Asmoto Running Band, the title was based on a plea from an exasperated roadie for a “smoother running band”! In a way he got his wish because the epic “story” songs are gone and they honed their approach a little further away from freaky folk to freaky Rock (which was well in style at that point in time). Guitarist Root Cartwright was always the driving force behind the band and here he really comes to the fore with some excellent work throughout this album, most notably on "McAlpine Versus The Asmoto." Elsewhere, "The Kettering Song" provides one of the highpoints of this album, using backwards sections and almost punky-edged vocals to produce the oddest piece of local pride.
To underline the more professional attitude, this album was produced by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd (who obviously didn’t mind taking a mad bunch into the studio.) Though the first part of the album seems to follow “concepts” (but keeping things generally concise in contrast to their previous LP), the latter part has some great “odd-progressive” elements in the aforementioned Kettering Song, "Freef (R)" All and the off-key groove of "Autumn Lady's Dancing Song." It all finishes with a typical piece of Principal Edwards catchy strangeness "Weirdsong Of Breaking Through At Last."

CONDITION: The cover: rated: VG++, very fragile UK gatefold has light prior use visible but nothing near to extreme or even a lot, more so "lightly" used. There are no delete marks, no split seams, and no writing... having strong original colors ...
