Stone Roses Hacienda Gig Promotional / Memorabilia Metal Sign
The sign itself marks one of the legendary concert nights/gigs that took place at the club in the late 80's, by the indie legends Stone Roses.
We believe these to be promotional signs produced for the Hacienda Club Closing Down / Reunion Parties.
I'm afraid we do not have very much more information about them, as they were amongst a large job-lot of music memorabilia bought at auction.
However, they appear to be authentic as they have record company information/logo stamped onto the rear (see photos). We were informed when we purchased them that they were commissioned by the record company (Silvertone) to promote/commemorate parties at the legendary Manchester Club.
On researching a little, it seems the original artwork on the sign came from a smaller sized paper poster, used to promote the original concert, way back in 1989!.. It comprises of the band's 'Lemon' logo with the Hacienda black & yellow 'industrial warning' design theme that was part of the interior decor throughout the club during this period. We've put these signs over to the main SR Forums etc and their origins seemed to be confirmed as accurate/genuine.
One thing I can say for sure, I have never seen anything like these before. They are definately not mass produced and certainly very hard to find.
Dimensions: Within the job-lot, there is a mixture of 2 different sizes:
1 x sign measures approx: 31cm x 21cm (approx A4+ small size)
1 x sign measures approx: 61cm x 31cm (approx A3+ large size).
Installation/Display:
They could do with having holes drilling in them, if you were going to mount it directly onto the wall, but they are also a fairly lightweight metal, so could also go up with semi-permanent fixings.
Alternatively, for the best presentation, I would recommend that you frame it.
I have included a photo of what the sign looks like when mounted & framed, the results are simply stunning!
Please note that this is something you would have to do yourself - the frame is not included.
(FYI the frame shown in the photo was purchased in a local home store chain 'Wilkos' costing less than £10).
Sadly the Hacienda club is with us no more, but this surviving memory is a great piece of memorabilia to own, frame & display.
It deserves a place on the wall of any true indie fan of the 'Madchester' music scene.
