Description

You are looking at a piece of Rock History.

This is a promotional 2 part "sample sign" produced for the Hacienda Club Closing Down Party.

The sign itself marks one of the legendary concert nights/gigs that took place at the club in the late 80's, by the indie legends Stone Roses.

The History behind this pop art:

The full size signs were used for the closing down & subsequent reunion parties that have been held and were in much bigger proportions. This is one of a handful of samples that were created by the promotions team on behlaf of Silvertone & Factory Records to promote the party.

The sign (larger floor to ceiling hoarding) was orginally just an A3 paper poster that was put up to promote the gig back in 1989 and comprises the band's 'Lemon' logo with the Hacienda black & yellow 'industrial warning' design that was part of the interior decor throughout the club at the time.

It was then later reproduced in a very small quantity of these 2-piece A4 sample signs, and submitted to Silvertone in order to get the record company approval / order for the much bigger ones (which were installed at the club for these subsequent mammoth parties). I am lucky enough to own one of these larger ones but sadly it is not for sale!!

There were however, 4 of these smaller 'samples' produced and none of them were actually used/put up, so they are in very good condition.

I know for a fact that they are rare, as I was involved when they were originally produced and know that there were not many.

Condition:

Like I said I have 4 of these, but will pick you out the one that is in the best condition. All of them are in good state. They had been sealed & stored away with my old vinyl record collection that has recently come out of dry storage. The colours on them are still really vibrant (see pics) and I've checked them over for dents etc and could not find any.

They could do with holes drilling in them if you were going to mount it directly on the wall, but they are also a fairly lightweight metal, so would also go up with semi-permanent fixings.

Alternatively, for the best presentation, I would recommend that you frame it.

I have included a photo of what the sign looks like when mounted & framed, the results are simply stunning! Please note that this is something you would have to do yourself, the frame is not included.

(FYI the frame shown in the photo I believe was purchased in Wilkos and was less than £10).

Dimensions are 2 x 30.5cm x 20cm. Total combined size: 61cm x 40cm (approx A3 size).

Sadly the club is with us no more, but this surviving memory is a great piece of memorabilia to own, frame & display. It deserves a place on the wall of any true indie fan of the Madchester music scene.

Please email me any questions. Thanks!
