Description
This auction is for a very rare reel to reel tape of a live show that Jim Reeves and the Blue Boys did on a Friday evening at Mountain View Park near Chambersburg, PA. This auction is for the original tape that was sent to Mary Reeves by Kenneth Alexander who maintained the sound system and recorded the show on the evening it was performed. This reel to reel runs almost 65 minutes but the first 15 minutes is Ken talking to Mary. He apologizes to Mary for cutting off some of the Blue Boy numbers so he can get his message on the tape. This show was from the summer of 1961 and Mary Reeves used a large portion of it on the Jim Reeves On Stage Album. Ken also refers to the park several times by calling it Mountain SIDE Park. Tape is played at 7 1/2 IPS. Sound quality is excellent. There is one drop out. There is also a speed variation in the song An Evening Prayer (not on the album) but that is probably why it wasn't used. Ken explained that the covers he used to keep the rain off, bumped the reels and may have caused some speed variations. In this tape, you will hear all of the dialogue, songs done by Dean Manuel like Down Yonder and Piano Roll Blues, Leo Jackson does Red River Rock, Country Gentlemen, and the best Alabama Jubalee I ever heard. An Evening Prayer is done by Jim and that was not included on the album. Mel Rogers does a comedy skit with a poem. Jim rags on Leo and Dean both about their drinking. Mary also changed the order in which some of the songs were presented on the album as compared to the original live show. This is one of the RARE ones folks! It's quite a treat.
