This album is a collection of live recordings made within the Freedom Movement circa 1963-64 documenting songs and other such exclamations captured during rallies, sermons, mass demonstrations or one-to-one interviews. Of course, beyond providing an insight to the actual protest events of the civil rights era, this compilation reveals a wealth of political and spiritual music from the time. Ranging from the group renditions of well-known songs like 'This Little Light Of Mine' and 'Wade In The Water' to polemical statements incorporated into similarly gospel-like formats. These recordings filter the circumstances of the time through church communities, while other pieces like '6x8' capture more personal experiences, breaking up the music with a more direct set of reports of the climate of the times. One of the most striking elements attributed to the compilation is the quality of the lead voices - presumably not a professional singer amongst them, yet there are some spectacular performances here nonetheless.We ship worldwide
