The grading system I'm using is as follows (please note that I try to grade conservatively):
MINT (M): The record looks like it has just left the manufacturer, with NO flaws what so ever. It looks as though it had never been handled. No scuffs or scratches, blotches or stains. No stickers address labels, writing on the covers or labels. No tears or seam splits. No wear to the cover or record period! Age of the record has nothing to do with it.
NEAR MINT (NM): This is usually the highest grade. The record appears virtually flawless. A very minor scuff and very little else can appear on the vinyl. This is close to perfect.
EXCELLENT (E) : Minor scuffs and only the slightest of wear. There may be more than a few scuffs but no deep scratches. Beautiful collectible condition.VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): Still Great condition and very well cared for. More scuffs than Excellent condition. Maybe a scratch or two but nothing deep or obtrusive.
VERY GOOD (VG): Doesn't look very good, lots of scuffs and scratches. This one has been played a lot. It still retains some of it's luster but it looks a little dull. There will almost always be some surface noise when played. The Dynamics should still be excellent, overpowering the surface noise. It should still be a pretty good record to add to your collection but not really collectible.
GOOD PLUS (G+) This is generally not a collectible condition record. But it will play.
GOOD (G): This record will look very well played, dull, and grayish. But this record will still play. It may have distracting surface noises (crackles, hisses). Grooves may be worn. It should play without any skips or any obtrusively loud pops. It will play and you can enjoy the music but you'll still hear noise.
