Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. An ACID ARCHIVES recommendation...and here's why:

This is a very rare Christian Psych Folk LP and was released recorded April 4, 1968. Included in the line up on this LP was Dick Hyman on keys, who later went on to become a driving force in the jazz world as well as recording LP's playing a Moog synthesizer. Meanwhile, and only in America, this Ylvisaker cat was the hip electrified Dylan of the x-ian scene, John Ylvisaker, was 'gently rocking the American youth groups from coast to coast with some new electric
sounds'. Albums like 'Cool livin' (1967) and 'Follow me' (1968) swapped unquestioning praise
for Lutherian folkrock songs and sardonic Dylanesque lyrics, and Ylvisaker became a hero to young '60s Christians who wanted to be hip with a positive outlook.
Don't get turned off by any pre concieved notions, cause Ylvisaker's voice (kind of a low register Jim Morrison style) is just too unique, too heartfelt to not get sucked in. As the record spins, the music gets better and better. Wildness starts to creep in. Ylvisaker puts holy stories to pysch and makes songs that are as good as any rock songs around. And then there are compelling bent groovers and garage edginess...This stuff ain't inept or sloppy, and it's not "Real People." No, this is just damn good! Be it X-ian rock with the cheesiest of garage rock organs and slithery Eastern-influenced psychedelic guitar lines, occasionally embellished with florid flute, delivered in a shaky, low croon suggestive of Jim Morrison who can't quite hold all his notes? It sounds like a satire of an obscure psychedelic LP review, or perhaps a description of a band in a Z-grade late-'60s exploitation movie that few have ever seen. But it's real. "Follow Me" is weird in it's own way, like hearing an alternate universe, hardcore Christian version of the sub sonic placid Doors with the full-of-himself over-seriousness John Ylvisaker's vocals (which are more lounge lizard than the Lizard King). The band play with a sense of drama, their raw ominous self compositions can at times be genuinely haunting, and Ylvisaker's occasional intoned spoken passages (another Morrisonism) are so peculiar that they're quite entertaining...
With the recent advent of the "Archivist" collector guide and the "Holy Fuzz" compilation the pagan world may be prepared to discover what a handful of open-minded collectors already know, namely that the seemingly unhip field of 1960s-70s Christian psychrock contains some of the greatest records ever made. Take our word for it.   John Ylvisaker writes the songs, sings and plays guitar while his lovely wife Amanda plays keyboards and Strawberry Alarm Clock-ish flute and session pros provide the rhythm section. To prepare yourself for the full Ylvisaker experience, contemplate the idea of Elvis ditching his mid-60s Hollywood crap and reinventing himself as a TV evangelist, then recruting P F Sloan and Curt Boettcher to provide songs in a Greenwich Village-meets-Southern-sermonizing style. And no clichéd comments about dorky Christians please, cause John Y is smart, suave and has a clearer view than most atheists. He also has a wonderful rich tenor voice which does whatever he asks of it. The arrangements are atmospheric and varied with guitars and flute on top of a typical upscale Grassroots folkrock soundscape, while the performances are classy and tasteful. Forget any incorrect sarcasms you may hear about sloppy playing in the "Incredibly Strange Music" book uttering such nonsense.  No exact reissue exists...   Side One
