PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Highly collectible ... Original 1965 first pressing = this is great Sun Ra, = its crazy, surreal, and inaccessible, more so than "Space Is the Place" or "Easy Listening for Intergalactic Travel".
Sun Ra was in tune with cosmic energies, and was influenced by heliocentric sound waves. Sun Ra heard things his own way, and succeeded in transmitting what he heard to his group, Arkestra. as you listen to this music it's easy to imagine that the Arkestra are playing along to some surreal sci-fi movie, maybe a film that only existed in Sun Ra's mind? Who knows? What is known is this album has a timeless quality and one may never grow tired of listening to it. The echo's were to influence the psychedelic movement, yes indeed Syd Barrett was exposed to this music, Pink Floyd toured with AMM and Sun Ra during which time Keith Rowe taught Syd how to play with feedback, use echoes, get the slide screams, etc. Sun Ra's extreme use of reverb contorts the instruments until they no longer sound like anything from this world. The longer, more straightforward songs are still very much worth your time, and the lo-fi production makes them feel at home with the rest of the tracks.
"Solar Drums" a complete delay-fest extravaganza! Can't think of another artist who was creating similar `sound-scapes' at the beginning of the sixties, with the exception of early sci-fi films such as `Forbidden Planet'. Overall this Sun Ra album gets overlooked. Granted, it's one of the more schizo Ra offerings, in that 4 of the tracks sound like they're from the Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy frame of compositional abstraction, while the remaining 3 ("Ankh," "Lights on a Satellite," and "Kosmos in Blue,") are from the Bad and Beautiful sessions, and share that album's almost conventional jazz sheen. But the whack tunes "Cluster of Galaxies," and "The Outer Heavens," in particular have that early '60s Sun Ra character about them, full of that smokey, contemplative aura that makes SUN RA seem more accurately placed on a classical than a jazz shelf with the usual Gilmore/Patrick and Arkestra far too skilled and dignified to let the album ever slide into maudlin lyricism.
CONDITION: The cover: EXTRA clean, 50 years old, rated: M- TOP COPY with fresh original appearance, flat & square with 4 sharp corners. Having no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ... collection worthy rarity ...
The vinyl: Clean and glossy over both sides, rated: M- TOP COPY expect play grade with very enjoyable all clean audio... and both THOTH labels are clean
