Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Actually extremely rare...1970 first printing from Jamaica, and the sound quality is excellent, the same as the WestBound USA issue ...

STILL IN ORIGINAL FACTORY CELLOPHANE

The 1970 first pressing of the very first (legendary) FUNKADLIC album...

If you enjoyed FUNKADELIC's home-brew treatment on their MAGGOT BRAIN album,  then we highly recommend you check out the FUNKADELIC's very first album. Like the aforementioned album, we find this record to be an essential record that's often disregarded because of the crude production. Funkadelic sets off the trailblazing career of George Clinton, Eddie Hazel & company in grand fashion. The highlights are probably the bookends, "Mommy, What's a Funkadelic?" and "What Is Soul?" (by the way, soul is the ring around your bathtub), but there's some excellent material in between. We find "Music for My Mother" to be one of the band's strangest trips, and perfect background music for crumbling some of your town's finest. This crew would go on to create a number of classics, but Funkadelic is a classic debut, and an interesting look inside the chaos that would come to the forefront later that year.

Funkadelic's self-titled 1970 debut is one of the group's best early- to mid-'70s albums. Not only is it laden with great songs — "I'll Bet You" and "I Got a Thing..." are obvious highlights — but it retains perhaps a greater sense of classic '60s soul and R&B than any successive George Clinton-affiliated album. Recording for the Detroit-based Westbound label, at the time Funkadelic were in the same boat as psychedelic soul groups such as the Temptations, who had just recorded their landmark PSYCHEDELIC SHACK album across town at Motown, and other similar groups. Yet no group had managed to effectively balance big, gnarly rock guitars with crooning, heartfelt soul at this point in time quite like Funkadelic. Clinton's songs are essentially conventional soul songs in the spirit of Motown or Stax — steady rhythms, dense arrangements, choruses of vocals — but with a loud, overdriven,
fuzzy guitar lurking high in the mix. And when Clinton's songs went into their chaotic moments of jamming, there was no mistaking the Hendrix influence.

Furthermore, Clinton's half-quirky, half-trippy ad libs during "Mommy, What's a Funkadelic?" and "What Is Soul" can be mistaken for no one else — they're pure-cut P-Funk. Successive albums portray Funkadelic drifting further toward rock, funk, and eventually disco, especially once Bernie Worrell began playing a larger role in the group. Never again would the band be this attuned to its '60s roots, making self-titled release a revealing and unique record that's certainly not short on significance, clearly marking the crossroads between '60s soul and '70s funk.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: M- very fragile (like European import material) still in factory cellophane... this being an extremely rare Jamaican issue, it's amazing to find in cellophane some 46 years after release. Original 1970 price sticker ($3.00 !) is on outer shrink wrapper

The vinyl: Rated: M- clean and clear over both sides ... plays with same sound quality as the USA WestBound pressing... in other words, the play back should not reveal alarming  distracting surface problems ...  both Jamaican Janus labels are clean

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
