"THE KATE SMITH HOUR" RADIO SHOW TRANSCRIPTION DISCS FROM THE WAR DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMED FORCES RADIO SERVICE. ONE COMPLETE 30 MINUTE RADIO BROADCAST ON THESE TWO, ONE SIDED, 16 INCH, BLACK LAQUER, 33 1/3 RPM DISCS. RARE AFRS ACETATE DISCS, POSSIBLY TEST PRESSINGS AND MOST LIKELY NEVER ISSUED TO RADIO STATIONS FOR BROADCAST
"The Kate Smith Hour" radio program #84 circa late 1944 to early 1945 starring KATE SMITH with special guests from the new Broadway show "On The Town".
Program includes guests LEONARD BERNSTEIN, ADLOPH GREEN, BETTY COMDEN, JEROME ROBBINS, OLVER SMITH
The first half of the show is dedicated to the Broadway show "On The Town". It is stated that the show just opened "last Thursday Night". As the show opened on Broadway on December 28, 1944, this could put the date of the show in early January 1945.
The guests re-enact how they came up with the ideas for the show while performing some of the songs of the show at the same time. Songs include "New York, New York", "Ya Got Me" & an instrumental song played by Leonard Bernstein. Leonard Bernstein suggests that Kate Smith sing "Lucky To Be Me", which she does
Lots of piano played by Leonard Bernstein. It sounds like the majority of the dialogue is by Adolph Green, Betty Comden & Leonard Bernstein - who were the creators of the show.
The "On The Town" sketch takes up a little more than half of the show
