Little groove wear, but many light scuffs
NOTES:
RARE! Recorded in London in 1928, includes Americans Quealey, Davis.
GRADING
The grading of side one and side two of a disc is separated by a forward slash: E/V+
Although based on standard VJM Grading, I have added some further clarification (in blue type) and only the following grades are used:
No visual signs of groove wear.
E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.There should be no greying grooves. E- Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches.
Moderate wear possibly with light greying of grooves in louder passages. Light scuffs may also be present. V+ V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced.
There may be areas of greying, but there will still be plenty of shine left. Though generally free from distortion, first signs may be evident in some loud passages. V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
More greying, scuffing and/or scratches are likely. Surface noise, and distortion may be more evident. V- Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.
Deeper scratches and prominent scuffs may be present. Possible greying throughout; heavy in loud passages. Music is still listenable.
N.B.
Scratches or needle digs that cause repeats or skips should be noted separately; as should cracks, prominent digs, needle-runs, rim-chips, rim-flakes, edge-bites, edge-dents, warps, 'dishing' etc.
The safe arrival of your record(s)
As a collector of 78s myself, I understand the importance of safe packing for postage. 78s won in my auctions are sandwiched between stiff cardboard squares, taped at edges and wrapped in bubble wrap. They are then placed in an oversized box and are protected on all sides/edges with further cushioning. I have been posting 78s for a number of years and none have ever been damaged during transit.

A larger quantity of records will result in far better value, so I'm happy to look after (paid for) records to make up an economical parcel.
Please note, I am a collector and not a dealer. Since I buy considerably more 78s on Ebay than I sell, I end up with many perfectly re-useable cardboard boxes - all of which I've been charged for. Where possible, it is these that I use. Apart from the obvious 'GREEN' benefits, your records are no less well protected.
Where as some Ebay 78 dealers are charging as much as £5.99 for postage of a single 78rpm record, I am able to keep costs down to Ebay's recommended £4.00. This covers all materials, my fuel costs, the actual postage cost to me, my time (i.e. preparing paperwork and printing, careful wrapping of the 78s, travelling to and from the nearest Post Office and waiting in queues, etc. I am also charged commission on the £4 charge by Paypal.
I do not make money from P&P charges.
