Description
RARE - Barney Wilen original RCA French Pressing 430.053. This is an extremely rare original copy. All details are correct. The dust jacket is in very good condition as the photos show. There is some chipping along the edges and ringwear (which can be cleaned) on the back. There is a split on the bottom right at the opening that is about 3/4".
Playing condition: A little hard to describe completely accurately as this is a 60 year old mono recording and I played it on my Technics SL-1210 GR turntable running an AT450 cartridge with a .3 x .7 nude elliptical stylus tracking at 1.25g. It should be played with a mono cartridge. That said, on Side 1, within the first minute there is a little distortion with the trumpet. At the end of Side 1, there is some sibilance with the high hat cymbal and trumpet at the end of the track. This may not appear with a proper mono cartridge. Side 2 is pretty clean. There is some scuffing on both sides but, overall, the record appears in very good condition considering its age. There is some light crackling on and off throughout the album but I suspect a good cleaning will mitigate that. To me, it does not interfere with the enjoyment of this very rare album.
I gave this LP a very light cleaning but in examining it with a 10x loupe, a proper cleaning with an ultrasonic or vacuum RCM is called for. The original paper sleeve is missing and the album is sleeved in a MoFi inner sleeve and MoFi outer sleeve for the dust jacket.
Please ask me any questions. I've had this album for over 50 years. It was a gift from my grandmother who'd met Barney Wilen on a visit to Paris in the early 60's. I claim no provenance other than that.
While this is my first for sale listing on Ebay, I've been a member for many years as a buyer. I know how rare and desirable this LP is so please communicate with me as much as you wish.
This will need to be shipped in a special record box to insure against any potential damage. I will ship to North America or Western Europe only at agreed upon shipping rates with the buyer at the end of the auction.
Along with the scuffing, at the request of someone, I've looked at both sides under bright light and see some diagonal lines that don't appear to make an aural difference.
