Description
MEGA RARE UK GOLD / WHITE STEREO issue
BRUCKNER SYMPHONY NO.9 in D MINOR (Original version)
HMV ASD 493
Issued in 1962 the LP features
CARL SCHURICHT conducting the VIENNA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
This is the LAST Symphony that ANTON BRUCKNER worked on before he died in 1896 and as such the final 4th Movement was never finished. Bruckner had in fact finished the first 3 movements by the end of October 1894 but on realising he would not finish the Finale in time he suggested using his "Te DEUM" as the conclusion.
There have been many different versions of this Symphony over the years - some more successful than others.
THE RECORDING ON THIS LP IS THE ORIGINAL VERSION WITHOUT THE 4th MOVEMENT and is one of the HOLY GRAILS of CLASSICAL RECORD COLLECTING it is UNBELIEVABLY RARE especially in this STUNNING CONDITION
Probably one of the BEST COPY'S of this record ever to appear in an online Auction.
SIDE ONE
1st movement : Feierlich, Misterioso
SIDE TWO
Band 1 - 2nd movement : Scherzo (Bewegt,lebhaft) & Trio (Schnell)
Band 2 - 3rd Movement : Adagio (Langsam, feirlich)
CONDITION OF THE SLEEVE
As you can see from the scans the cover is in STUNNING condition : the corners are nice and square - the opening edge is sharp with no lifting of the Clarifoil - the spine is square and not crushed - the back is clean & bright white with no discolouration, also the flipovers are undamaged. The only flaw is a slight lifting of the Clarifoil on the bottom near the right edge which looks to me that it was done when the sleeve was made.
CONDITION OF THE CENTRE LABELS & VINYL
I hate repeating myself but as you can see from the scans both original issue GOLD / WHITE centre labels are crisp and clean with no spindle wear. The vinyl is bright and in near mint FANTASTIC condition - I can only see one or two very, very short light marks even under a bright light, the record honestly does look as if it has very rarely been played. I have played the record with a very light pick up arm and there is the odd very light crackle - but this record has never been Professionaly cleaned, it has come straight out of an old collection so would benefit from cleaning (although I did notice on other listings of this LP sold in the past that there were slight crackles even when near mint so maybe it's an inherent pressing fault?).
CONDITION OF INNER SLEEVE
As you can see the LP his it's ORIGINAL OPERA STARS and OPERA HOUSES inner - this is very often missing. The only downside is that it is a little creased, but it is clean and not torn.
So there you have it, a very RARE LP in FANTASTIC CONDITION and for the SERIOUS COLLECTER this is probably one of the BEST YOU WILL EVER FIND.
Although I have been selling CLASSICAL LP's for many years at Fairs this is the first I have sold on ebay and I will be putting many more up in the near future.
