The Man LP (Duke LP 89) Rare Red Vinyl recorded in Compatible Stereo

         I always laugh silently at my New York City friends who seem to have only discovered the much-loved and revered Bobby Bland yesterday. Bless their hearts! They all love Bobby Bland's "Rockin' In The Same Old Boat" and they all have copies of this great 45 on Duke, but I bet none of them have this ultra rare red vinyl Duke LP by Bobby Bland! For me, Bobby Blue Bland represents life in Texas, my childhood, and all those times I would visit my grandfather's record store on Cullen Boulevard or his nightclub which had its requisite blues and funk-centered jukeboxes. Bobby Bland's music is so tightly woven into the sinewy fabric of Texas culture that at times it seems we would all be lost without his songs. This is a great album by a blues legend who proves with this effort he is able to transcend even the blues genre. In my opinion, Bobby Bland, Chuck Berry and B.B. King are all living American treasures who have truly graced us all and who deserve the utmost respect. And for me, Bobby Bland represents home, and ultimately, family. As the liner notes say, this album is the beginning of a series designed to firmly and unequivocally establish Bobby as a great if not the greatest blues performer of his generation. This album also captures his many prismatic moods. Side A song titles include "Chains of Love", "Georgia", "Since I Fell For You", "Who Can I Turn To", and "Wouldn't You Rather Have Me". Side B song titles include "Rockin' In The Same Old Boat", "I'm On My Way". "Ask Me Bout Nothing But the Blues", "You Ought to Be Ashamed", and "Gotta Get to Know You". Grade: M- (RED VINYL STILL IN SHRINK WRAP!!). Glossy pressing. Shipping cost is $7 for US destinations.
