Here is a lovely copy - a FIRST PRESSING - of this legendary BLUE NOTE album, HORACE SILVER: "6 PIECES OF SILVER", featuring HORACE SILVER, piano; DONALD BYRD, trumpet; HANK MOBLEY, tenor sax; DOUG WATKINS, bass; and LOUIS HAYES, drums. This is truly an ALL-STAR quintet, and the result is hard swinging mid-1950s BLUE NOTE JAZZ at its best!
This LP was released in the mid 1950's, and this is an original double sided DEEP GROOVE pressing. The address on the label is 47 W. 63rd, NYC. It features the "Ear" ("Plastylite") imprint in the run-out groove, as well as the Rudy Van Gelder "RVG" initial HAND ETCHED into the run out groove. It also has the matrix BN LP 1539 A1 and A2 hand etched in the run out grooves. The labels are clean, with almost no visible spindle marks. This LP was rarely played. The LP itself is the nice, thick heavy vinyl associated with these mid 1950s pressings. This LP is in very conservatively rated VG+ condition, with clean, bright playing surfaces. There are only a few light visible marks.
I have played this LP, and it plays beautifully, with almost no back round noise. The sound is beautiful...that classic, gorgeous, rich Blue Note sound, but of course, there might be an occasional pop or click. This is a 60 year old record, and its not absolutely flawless, but very nice and listenable...its all about the music, and this LP plays great! There is only one slight mark at the very end of the last track on side one, and you literally hear a soft "tick" as the song comes to an end. Otherwise, I'd rate this LP in VG++/excellent condition. The classic heavy cardboard cover is in VG+ condition, with solid spine, and solid top seam - there is a slight separation, about 1 inch, on the bottom right of the jacket opening. (Im just trying to let the potential buyer of this wonderful record know exactly what you may notice when you receive it. No surprises - no disappointments. The LP cover is really very clean - it has almost no visible moderate shelf wear for an album that is close to 60 years old. A tiny ink mark under the words "High Fidelity" is about the only thing I can see (see pic of back cover - upper left corner). The classic cover with its distinctive graphics, and photo by FRANCIS WOLFF, are sharp and clear.
I have been collecting rare Jazz LPs for many years. This is one from my personal collection. I assure you, all the LP's I will be offering here have been meticulously taken care of, and only played rarely, on a Sota Sapphire Turntable, with a Grado Reference Cartridge. They have been kept inside a temperature controlled room in my home, in plastic dust jackets. In other words, you can bid in confidence, knowing these LP's come from someone who has loved them and babied them. I reluctantly continue to sell some of my precious Jazz LPs, and I sincerely hope they go to someone who will love them as I have.
All LPs will be carefully packed in strong, proper LP boxes, with cardboard inserts for added protection, and sent USPS Media rate, PRIORITY MAIL or UPS Ground - which ever the buyer prefers - so proper tracking is available. For overseas buyers, your LP will be diligently packed in a sturdy LP mailer box with cardboard inserts for added protection, and then shipped to the E-Bay Global Shipping Center, and then shipped from there directly to you. I do not add "handling" fees, the costs will be exactly as I am charged by the shipper of choice.
